Lore[]
As of version 4.4, Gaming and Xiangling do not have many interactions, since Gaming is released in this version and is considered a new character. However there is still some lore and similarities between them, hinting that they already developed a relationship off-screen. We shall hopefully see more of their interactions and similarities in the near future as we get to know Gaming more.
Gaming and Xiangling are both from Liyue and hold Pyro visions. This symbolizes passion for what they do: Gaming's Wushou dancing and Xiangling's cuisine. Xiangling works at Wanmin Restaurant in Liyue Harbor with her father, Chef Mao. Gaming left his home in Qiaoying Village for his Strongbox Secure Transport Agency job as well as to pursue Wushou dancing in Liyue Harbor. The two both have extroverted and cheerful personalities, making friends with whoever they encounter on their journeys.
In terms of design, Gaming and Xiangling have the most similar color palette in the current roster of playable Liyue characters. Gaming's outfit consists of multiple colours: black, red, green, and gold. Xiangling's outfit is similar and has black, red, yellow, gold, and a speck of green on it. The two both have their Pyro visions on their waists, with pins of their companions - a suanni head for Gaming and Guoba for Xiangling. Both visions have tassels attached to them. Xiangling's green tassel matches the green in Gaming's outfit, and Gaming's red tassel matches his shirt and Xiangling's red ribbons. In-game, both their kits summon their companions; Gaming's elemental burst summons Man Chai and Xiangling's elemental skill summons Guoba.
They both appear to like food. Gaming mentioned he knows many good places to eat in Vibrant Harriers Aloft in Spring Breeze, and Xiangling is a chef in Liyue who likes to experiment with different types of ingredients and cuisine. Gaming has visited Wanmin Restaurant specifically for Xiangling's cuisine, saying that he enjoys it and her dishes are always delicious. As seen in Gaming's voice line about Xiangling. Gaming's favorite food is Black-Back Perch Stew. A variant of this dish is Wanmin Restaurant's Boiled Fish, which is Xiangling's special dish. Cuisine is an important part of Liyue's culture, and the two share this commonality as Liyue characters.
Lantern Rite 2024[]
Both Gaming and Xiangling are featured in the event page in Vibrant Harriers Aloft in Spring Breeze. Xiangling and Guoba appeared in Paper Shadows A-Foraging, while Gaming and Man Chai appeared in Joyful Beasts and Their Auspices. The Lantern Rite in 2024 allowed us to get to know Gaming more, especially his backstory. We learn that Gaming did not have a good relationship with his father at first, unlike Xiangling who is close with her dad, but as the story developed we help Gaming and his dad repair their relationship, and they made up at the end. So Gaming and Xiangling are both on friendly terms with their fathers after the Lantern Rite event.
Quotes[]
As of version 4.4, Gaming and Xiangling do not have any on-screen interactions. However, they have voice lines about each other and seem to be friends. It is evident that Gaming has visited Wanmin Restaurant many times, to the point where Xiangling remembers him and his food preferences. Gaming compliments Xiangling on her cooking skills and seems to really enjoy visiting her restaurant for some delicious cuisine.
- “Oh boy, once I know Gaming is coming, I make sure to prepare a huge pot of tea in advance. You know, so he can wash some of the spicy food down. I've offered to tone down the spice a bit for him, but he absolutely insists that he prefers the authentic flavor... And he's not even just saying that to be polite. Believe me, I know a true foodie when I see one! Anyway, if that's what he prefers, then who am I to disappoint, hehe!”
- — Xiangling's voiceline about Gaming
- “Pretty much everything Chef Xiangling cooks is a winner, but my favorite has to be her Black-Back Perch Stew. I always try to rinse off the molten lava sauce before each bite, but I'm still like "ss, ah, ss, ah" trying to cool my mouth down, hahaha! Worth every bite though, and they do generous portions — you can see why it's Wanmin's signature dish. I'll be back for my next fix soon!”

Fanon[]
Xiangming is generally considered a rarepair, since they do not share many canon interactions. Both Gaming and Xiangling have more prefered ships in the fandom, being Gaminet for Gaming and Taoling for Xiangling. The few fans who do ship them adore their indentical energetic and cheerful personalities, feeling they are a compatible pair. Fanart of the ship commonly depicts Gaming and Xiangling bonding over their similarities or companions.
The two are both a part of Lantern Rite 2024, despite having no interactions on screen. However, fans can assume that Xiangling watched Gaming's Wushou dancing performance, as he and the traveler brought the Liyue Harbor residents to the stage, including the Liyue playable characters who are a part of the Vibrant Harriers Aloft in Spring Breeze event, which includes Xiangling. Xiangling would be impressed by Gaming's flexibility and coolness, as well as the flashy LED lights on his outfit.
Fans can also imagine Gaming dropping by Wanmin Restaurant a lot when he is in Liyue Harbor and has free time. Wanmin Restaurant is one of the top restaurants in Liyue, and Gaming has said he enjoys going there and will be back again very soon. Xiangling will prepare something special each time Gaming visits, along with some tea, which is the number one specialty in his home town.
When Gaming and Xiangling hang out together, they will bring their companions along. Man Chai and Guoba would also get along, given their friendly nature just like their owners. Man Chai could chase Guoba, wanting to give him a big hug just like what he does when Gaming's elemental burst is active. Gaming and Xiangling would be smiling at how cute they are, and proceed to hug their adorable little friends.
