Canon[]
Chapter I: Act I[]
Lumine and Paimon are suspected of killing Rex Lapis at the Rite of Descension. The pursuing Millelith are defeated by Tartaglia who advises them to seek the adepti of Liyue to deliver the message of Rex Lapis' death to them and clear their name. He gives them a Sigil of Permission to prevent the adepti from harming them in case they become hostile. After going to the highest balcony of the Wangshu Inn, Lumine and Paimon pause to admire the scenery when Xiao suddenly appears besides them, startling both of them. He notices their possession of a Sigil of Permission and comments how well-prepared they came; although he adds that it only prevents him from hurting them, as it doesn't stop them from getting hurt in other ways. He warns them about getting involved in the world of adepti and advises them to leave for their own sake. Before Lumine or Paimon get to properly talk, Xiao disappears.
Lumine reunites with the owner of Wangshu Inn, Verr Goldet, and questions her about Xiao in hopes to get to converse with him, to which she gets impressed and remarks that Xiao must have been in a good mood if he showed himself to them. She suggests seeing the chef to make him a bowl of Almond Tofu, Xiao's favorite meal, along with a plate of whatever Lumine is best at making; she and Paimon decide on Satisfying Salad. They meet him again and offer him the dishes, which he accepts, and inform him of what happened in Liyue. Xiao is shocked to hear about the death of Rex Lapis and says he will seek out the other adepti.
Chapter I: Act III[]
Xiao and Lumine meet again at the Jade Chamber after Tartaglia unleashes Osial, the Overlord of the Vortex, to lure out Rex Lapis. When Osial emerges from the sea, Lumine and Paimon rush to the Jade Chamber in order to help defend Liyue against it. Xiao is found there along with the other adepti, questioning why she has come. The adepti, the Qixing and Lumine start to fight Osial and the Fatui with the use of the Guizhong Ballistas. When Osial begins to attack, Xiao shows concern for Lumine and warns her not to get hit. He soon blesses her with his adeptal powers as well, greatly increasing her movement speed.
They manage to repel the Fatui assault, upon which the three adepti on the ballista fire a powerful shot at Osial, but it retaliates by unleashing an incredibly powerful attack, causing the platform in which Lumine and the geoarmy were fighting on to break, and making Lumine to fall from a deadly height to the sea. However, Xiao makes use of his teleporting abilities and quickly rescues Lumine by holding her from behind, taking her to safety. Back to the Jade Chamber, Xiao holds an exhausted Lumine by holding her hand and waist to support her. Xiao tells Lumine to be careful while gently squeezing her hand, which she acknowledges.
After Ninguang decides to sacrifice the Jade Chamber in order to defeat Osial once and for all, the adepti and Lumine combine their powers at last to do so.
Alatus Chapter[]
Act I: Butterfly's Dream[]
One day outside Wangshu Inn, Lumine and Paimon encounter a masked adeptus who calls himself “Starsnatcher” that can apparently grant people's wishes, although his manner of operating is immediately suspicious. Later at Wanwen Bookhouse, they witness Starsnatcher purchasing a copy of the book “Yakshas: The Guardian Adepti”. The book tells the story of the Yakshas and how only one remains alive today, the Conqueror of Demons. Lumine and Paimon, now even more suspicious of Starsnatcher, head back to Wangshu Inn. They find more corrupted hilichurls, which Lumine has to finish off. Using Elemental Sight, Lumine tracks the evil aura of the hilichurls and leads them to Xiao, who easily defeated them. He explains that the changes in the hilichurls stem from the karma he has accumulated; additionally, he notices that it caused Lumine some trouble, leading Paimon to think about his unusual politeness. They soon realize that he is the sole surviving Yaksha mentioned in the book and Paimon feels pity for him. However, Xiao dismisses the book and explains that his deceased comrades would feel insulted by their pity.
He tells them that he was there to cleanse a cavern of demonic influence. To make up for her accidental rudeness, Paimon requests she and Lumine be allowed to help him with the cavern, to which Xiao reluctantly agrees.
After cleansing the cavern, the pair inform him of the fake adeptus who had been using a Sigil of Permission to exorcise the demons. Xiao deduces this to be the reason the demons were congregating in the first place and states that they would have to confiscate the sigil. To do this without resorting to violence, he decides to use an adepti art – the Dream Trawler, which can be used to call the souls of others.
Xiao tells them to head to a shrine near Mt. Tianheng to fetch certain items. At the shrine, Lumine and Paimon encounter the remains of a junior Yaksha named Pervases who helps them procure what they need. Sensing Xiao’s karmic burden on them, he tells them to send his regards to him before his illusion and voice disappears forever. The ritual is successful and Xiao chastises Starsnatcher. Upon learning Xiao’s identity, Starsnatcher promises to not pull such deceptions again and Xiao accepts his oath.
When Lumine and Paimon return to Wangshu Inn the following day, Starsnatcher had left them the Sigil of Permission and a letter. Lumine gives the sigil to Xiao who thanks them for their help. Xiao orders Grilled Tiger Fish, Pervases's favourite dish, and Lumine urges Paimon that they should leave to give Xiao space.
Lantern Rite (2021)[]
Part I - The Origin of the Lanterns[]
At the start of the Lantern Rite event of Version 1.3, Verr Goldet requests Lumine to convince Xiao to partake in the festival. She says that she herself is not close to Xiao, but Lumine seems to have grown familiar to him. Lumine does not feel optimistic considering Xiao’s mood and Paimon suggest leaving him alone for a few days.
Part II - Currents Deep Beneath the Lanterns[]
While the Mingxiao Lantern is under construction, Lumine and Paimon notice a suspicious person around the highly-flammable materials. After seeing him run off, they notice that Xiao is also at the harbor and has been watching this person. He says that he sensed a malign influence and was there to investigate. They notice a symbol left behind by the suspicious person and Xiao leaves the investigation to the two of them, stating that if he became involved there was a possibility that the streets of Liyue “would be painted red”.
With the information from Kaeya’s contact, Lumine and Paimon interrogate the Treasure Hoarders’ organization in Liyue about the anonymous letter they received. On questioning how they know about the letter, Xiao suddenly appears and tells the treasure hoarders to direct their questions to him. Not believing that Xiao to be an adeptus, they draw their weapons.
On defeating them, the treasure hoarders readily give up the letter whose contents reveal a plan to burn the city to the ground. Xiao entrusts Lumine and Paimon to meet up with the suspicious person. Before he leaves, Lumine asks Xiao to meet at a place with a view of the Mingxiao Lantern. Xiao is not partial to crowded areas and tells them to come to Wangshu Inn when the issue is resolved.
Part III - Light Upon the Sea[]
After solving the case, Lumine fulfills the agreement and heads to Wangshu Inn to meet Xiao. Lumine once again asks about seeing the Mingxiao Lantern together with her, but Xiao rejects and advises her to go to the city alone. In the Developer's Insight, it was confirmed that Xiao didn't dislike the idea of joining Lumine, but rejected out of avoidance. Because Xiao is in a lonely state where he hasn't spent much time among humans, he wouldn't know how to act and what his place would be in the crowd.
Lumine and Paimon talk to Verr Goldet and Huai'an to see if they know how to convince Xiao. Huai'an mentions that it would be easier to bring Lantern Rite to Xiao than the other way around, which they actually consider a great idea. Together with Huai'an, they find a spot and set up a festive stall. Lumine and Paimon tell him to prepare Almond Tofu and Grilled Tiger Fish before going back to fetch Xiao. Once more, Lumine asks Xiao to come to the Lantern Rite with her, but tells him that he won't have to go to Liyue Harbor. Xiao is confused, so Paimon reveals what they prepared and tells Xiao to quickly come down with them. Even when they arrive, Xiao still doesn't understand the meaning behind it, so Lumine explains that he can still participate in the festival this way.
The three eat together, Paimon suggesting that they should go to the harbor for the Mingxiao Lantern now. Lumine tells Xiao to come with them, but he rejects, so Lumine asks if he can at least accompany them on the way. Paimon points out how dangerous the road is and that they may need his protection, which ultimately convinces Xiao to escort them. When they arrive at the outskirts, Paimon finally asks why he is so adamant about not getting involved, so Xiao explains that him and the citizens have nothing in common. He's reluctant to speak more on the matter, so he bids them farewell. Lumine asks one more time, but Xiao still refuses. Before he leaves, he tells Lumine to call his name if she's in trouble, promising that he'll be there anywhere and anytime. While the lantern rite is taking place in the city, Xiao is shown to actually watch the lanterns from afar as well, sitting down and smiling from the distance.
Moonlight Merriment (2021)[]
One for the Foodies, Two for the Show[]
Lumine, Xiangling and Keqing all make their way to Wangshu Inn to gather more information about the Stove God. Smiley Yanxiao is happy to help out, but also asks Lumine for a favor. He wants to offer a dish to Xiao that's not Almond Tofu, so he asks her to teach him the Satisfying Salad recipe. He has heard about Lumine making this salad for Xiao in the past, which seems to be the only other dish that Xiao has found respectable.
Three to Get Ready, and Here We Go[]
During the second part of the event quest, Xiangling and Lumine collect the opinions from Liyue citizens about their preferences in food and their opinions on Xiangling's dish. When they search for a person with mild tastes, Lumine thinks of asking Xiao. Remembering Xiao's promise of coming as soon as his name is spoken, they go to a quiet place and Paimon yells for Xiao twice, but nothing happens. Paimon is confused and Lumine clarifies to Xiangling that Xiao actually only made the promise to her. After speaking his name, Xiao appears immediately behind them. Lumine is surprised it worked and Xiao tells her that anytime he makes her a promise, he will honor it.
Xiangling explains that she would like Xiao's opinion on her dish, but he hesitates. Lumine also expresses that she would like for Xiao to try it, which convinces him to finally agree, explaining that he will do it since its Lumine who is asking. After Xiao gives his opinion, he wants to take his leave. Lumine thanks him and Xiao bids farewell with "See you next time".
Lantern Rite (2022)[]
Sky-Gazers, Land-Walkers[]
Xiao appears during the 2nd part of the event quest when Keqing and Lumine travel to give gifts to the adepti. Xiao rejects these gifts since he doesn't think gratitude for his duties is needed and plans to leave. Lumine asks if he wants to see the fireworks together, but Xiao explains he will continue his patrol as usual. Xiao wants to remind Lumine what to do whenever she finds herself in any trouble, but she reassures him she already knows.
After the quest, Xiao can be found near Pevases' temple. When talking to him, Xiao assumes Lumine has come to invite him to watch the fireworks together, which she confirms to be true. Xiao thinks he'll be fine where he is.
Perilous Trail[]
Chasmic Maze[]
After realizing that the group is stuck inside the underground domain of the Chasm with no apparent way out, Lumine remembers that Xiao, who they briefly met beforehand, should still be there too. Since he promised to always come when calling his name, Lumine gives it a try, but gets no response. She tries again, but it turns out that even Xiao can't sense their presence there.
Danger All Around[]
After solving the puzzles found within a new domain, the group sees an illusion of Xiao. Lumine asks about his wellbeing, but Xiao is barely able to respond before the space interrupts the illusion. Yanfei later figures that this domain changes accordingly to people's desire in order to trick and trap them. She convinces Lumine that they should concentrate and imagine finding Xiao, which leads them to another spatial rift that allows them to communicate with him. Lumine asks Xiao to come find them, but he initially refuses since his condition is harmful to others. However, after he finds out that Lumine was in danger too, he changes his mind and manages to attack the rift and reunite with them. Lumine gets worried upon noticing he was injured.
Once they make it back to the camp, Xiao tells Lumine that they can avoid getting split up now. Along with the others, Lumine urges him to rest. As she watches him rest, she wonders if he's capable of having dreams.
End of the Line[]
Once Xiao has woken up, he tells Yanfei and Lumine what he experienced in the domain and that he had found who he was looking for: it was another Yaksha named Bosacius, although it was just an illusion. Xiao also reveals his plan to use all the energy he has to create a rift that will allow the others to go outside. This would result in self-sacrifice and him staying in the domain. The group rejects this plan, including Lumine who wants to leave together. Soon after, the group discovers a new domain that they plan to explore for a possible way out. Xiao says he will find a way and disappears. Lumine asks him to wait, but he is already gone before he can hear.
They find Xiao once again after a while of being inside the domain. Lumine calls out his name and they rush to help him, but he urges them to stay back. After his battle is over, Lumine reminds him that he hasn't recovered from his injuries, but he tells her not to worry.
At Tunnel's End, Light[]
During the cutscene of everyone escaping the domain, Xiao exhausts all his strength to get the group to the surface, but is unable to maintain the energy flow and the platform begins to crack. When the others realize his strength won't last, Lumine can be seen flinching before looking at Xiao with a concerned expression. As Xiao makes up his mind, he takes one final look into Lumine's direction before teleporting the group to safety, with him staying behind. In the end, Xiao is saved and brought to safety by Zhongli. When Lumine sees Xiao was saved, she runs over to check on him. The group recollects themselves on the surface and bid each other farewell, but Xiao seems to be waiting for Lumine. After everyone else has left, he tells her there is somewhere he'd like to go and that she can join him.
They meet at Pervases' Temple where Xiao opens up to Lumine; he tells her that dying in the act of sacrifice maybe wouldn't have been tragic, but Lumine implies he knows that isn't true. Xiao is indeed aware of that, so he figures that this mindset must be a form of his own insanity. Paimon and Lumine explain what Ushi said to them and tell him that even with his condition, he should spend time with people who make him happy. Lumine tells Xiao that there will always be someone willing to be by his side. Xiao then tells her about the Yakshas and the memories left behind by Bosacius. He tells Lumine that he's already said too much, but feels that he doesn't need to hold back as much when talking to her. He looks back on how many Yakshas and mortal soldiers have given their life in times of war, but Lumine reassures him that they're all heroes. Xiao says with a smile that he likes that word.
He explains that there's good in the world despite all the disaster and that even the darkest hearts have room for those they cherish. He accepts Lumine's words and tells her that from now on, heroes will always look out for each other.
Lantern Rite (2023)[]
The two meet during Lumine's search for the mysterious adeptus who saved Dvorak's ancestor a long time ago. Going off the little information Lumine has, she tries to lure the adeptus to save her by pretending to drown in the lake at the top of mount Aocang. However, the one that comes to her rescue isn't who she's looking for, but Shenhe and Xiao. Embarassed, Lumine and Paimon try to explain their plan to the worried yaksha; after hearing their explanations, Xiao prepares to leave. Lumine asks Xiao if he won't stay to which he replies that, as far as he knew, they were looking for no yaksha and scolds her for her foolish actions, stating that she caused others a great deal of worry.
They are seen together once again during the Epilogue, as they both are guests at Hu Tao's banquet. At the dinner table, they sit next to each other, following the girl's suggestion. As the dinner progresses, Xiao becomes overwhelmed due to the number of people present and the fact that both Rex Lapis and Barbatos are sitting at the table, pretending to be commoners. Lumine detects Xiao's discomfort and takes him outside the restaurant to calm down, leaving even Paimon behind. The two then have a heart-to-heart conversation, during which Xiao opens up to her and explains his insecurities about never being able to fit in with mortals, something that seem to come naturally to the Geo and Anemo Archons. Lumine reassures and tells him that he doesn't have to imitate their behaviour, and that many people in Liyue admire him for who he is. They return inside Xinyue Kiosk after Xiangling comes looking for them, telling them that the desserts are ready. After the banquet the group separates, and Xiao, Lumine and Paimon are the last ones leaving.
After the Epilogue, if the player chooses to go to Wangshu Inn, they will unlock a bonus conversation with Xiao. In this conversation, Xiao asks Lumine to taste both Yanxiao's and Xiangling's Almond Tofu, as he can't tell the difference on his own. He then asks her to tell him about stories from the city, a stark contrast to his previous disinterest in the life of mortals.
Waterborne Poetry Event[]
Part I - Congenial Gathering[]
Lumine and Paimon walk together in Wangshuu Inn, and casually spot Venti and Hu Tao conversing together in the balcony. Both explain they will be co-hosting a poetry gala in Yujing Terrace (which they called "Neighboring Nations Congenial Poetry Gala"), in order to help the people from Mondstadt and Liyue to familiarize with each other through poetry-sharing. Paimon enthusiastically proposes Lumine to participate, which Hu Tao agrees. Venti shares that both him and Hu Tao came in order to invite a "special guest", to which Xiao suddenly appears in the roof stating that he's not going to the gala, due to his lack of knowledge about poetry and to avoid hurting the crowd with his karma. Lumine, Venti and Hu Tao attempt to convince him together to join the event, stating that he can watch them in a nearby mountaintop. Xiao quietly hesitates, to then answering that he will consider it before vanishing.
Part II - Tears Among the Leaves[]
There are two groups made to separate and look for the thing Chongyun saw. In Lumine’s group is her, Paimon, Chongyun, and Diona. As their group leaves we see Xiao stand on a nearby cliff and vanishes. Chongyun takes them to the spot he saw the spirit, while explaining to Diona what his pure yang spirit was Xiao shows up, Paimon informs Diona they know him. Diona asks him why he’s here and he tells the group he heard of Chongyuns encounter and his suspicions were roused. He told them he hadn’t seen anything and had already checked the area. He tells them he’ll be leaving but Lumine tells him to wait and come on an inspiration walk with them, he hesitates before he agrees. Paimon suggests they look for ingredients for Diona’s drinks and not believing Diona, she proceeds makes 2 drinks for Chongyun and Xiao. Xiao looks skeptical and looks to Lumine. Traveler tells him not to force himself and he then downs it in a single gulp, feeling peer pressured Chongyun drinks his and has a hyperactive moment. After that Xiao spots a leaf with writing and they all head over to the waters edge to read it. It’s a poem about someone writing about their first meeting with their true love. Xiao doesn’t understand why someone would write a rom and put it in the water, Lumine then tells him some people write poems to just express themselves. Diona then suggests they write a reply poem and Chongyun asks how, Xiao tells them going upstream should do the trick because the ink is fresh so it would pass by to the original poet if they went up.
After heading upstream Traveler writes the notes and Diona, Paimon and Chongyun put them in water. Lumine walks over to Xiao with a smile telling him going upstream was a great suggestion, he then says .."Things you never had the chance to say before it was too late"... “When silence is the final word, we mourn the loss of things unheard...” Lumine then suggests he write a poem and he tells her he isn’t good at the kind of stuff. Paimon turns around to see Lumine and Xiao looking at each other, with Lumine looking happy which causes her to ask if the two of them were having a private chat. Xiao quickly replies stating it’s was nothing.
After the groups both return Lumine and Paimon realize Xiao is no longer with them, when Paimon calls his name we see that he is back to watching from the cliff. After Hu Tao returns with Zhongli as a judge they do couplets between teams and it’s Lumines turn to reply to Callirhoe’s “Qingxin’ has no heart, still it soothes the human heart” She can’t think of anything however when she looks up at Xiao inspiration hits her. “Sweet Dream’ is no dream, yet it nurtures people’s dreams” Zhongli asks what the connection is and Paimon says eating a delicious dessert before bed helps you sleep. However we see Traveler thinks otherwise, as she thinks (Actually, we sleep peacefully at night because Xiao is there to protect everyone.) looking up with a smile at Xiao where it then fades into him showing him give a small smile before turning away and leaving.
Afterward you can find Xiao at Pervases temple where he says his usually “it’s you” and tells Lumine he tried writing a poem and how his heart feels much calmer now, then asking if they can really hear it. If you go inside you can find a little poem: “A thousand year's vissicitudes, one's form never aging Grace never forgotten, the fire yet burning. Mountains climb high and waters run deep. Strange fate, indeed, to once more meet.”

The Glede Returns to the Pavilion (Part III)[]
Xiao was relaxing at Wangshu Inn when he saw a ghostly kite in the sky and believed that Hu Tao was strolling around, only to be surprised when he saw that it was Zhongli instead. Zhongli was helping Hu Tao test the new and traditional kites, along with fetching some ingredients for her. He asks him to help out with the kites, and after some testing, Xiao informs him that the mechanical kite was superior in speed. Xiao is impartial to the contest, though he admits that the kites give him a certain peace of mind. He then tells the Lumine to meet him at Pervases' Temple if they have the chance after the Lantern Rite as the group separates.
After the Lantern Rite festival ends, Lumine goes to Pervases' Temple as Xiao requested. He reveals that he asked her to meet him here so they could put a Xiao Lantern into the sky together. The two put the lantern into the sky and Xiao is seen smiling at Lumine. She notices that his expression softens when the lantern goes into the sky. Xiao sighs and tells Lumine thank you, before sighing lovingly.

Birthday Letter
Xiao gifts Lumine his specialty version almond tofu, "Sweet Dreams", and 10 Crystalflies. In the letter, he mentions that he wanted Lumine to decorate her hair with the crystalflies, thinking it would look nice, although he ended getting too much of them.
- “There was nothing for me to do today. So , I decided I would find a Crystalfly for you — to put in your hair. I thought that... it would look nice.The next thing I knew, I had caught several more than I intended. I hope you do not mind.If you wish to meet me, speak my name. ... I do not care much for birthdays and celebrations, and I do not wish to be around large groups of people. To be able to spend some time with you is enough.”
- “A vantage point to view the scenery together... The swirling sea of clouds will make for a beautiful sight. You have my thanks. Why don't I use my Adeptus Art to scale the mountain? I think that the trip with you may create more memories.”
Furthermore, Mihoyo released blog posts which describe how Xiao's birthday was spent. Lumine, thinking about what to get Xiao for his birthday, wanted to give him something other than Almond Tofu because she didn't want to be like everyone else. So, she decided on making him the Mint Jelly she tasted during Windblume Festival as Xiao's birthday present. Meeting up with Xiao, Lumine was handed the Crystalfly mentioned in Xiao's letter, but she didn't think that it was suitable to wear in her hair.
The two then walked through Liyue together, Lumine collecting ingredients for the jelly along the way. In the afternoon, the two return to Wangshu Inn where Lumine borrowed the kitchen to make the dish, Xiao offering to help out. When they finished making the 'slimes', Xiao didn't want to eat it, wanting to order Almond Tofu instead. He tells Lumine that he isn't bothered about the taste, but that he wanted to collect it, resulting in Lumine telling him how he couldn't because it will expire. After eating the jelly and commenting on the taste, Xiao then explains why he likes Almond Tofu - the dish reminds him of certain memories. The blog ends with Xiao stating how the jelly they made together is now also a "special memory" as he thanks Lumine.

Birthday Letter
Xiao gifts Lumine his specialty version almond tofu, "Sweet Dreams", and 5 Starconches he grabbed from the beaches of Guyun Stone Forest. In the letter, he briefly mentions his thoughts about what can be heard from the Starconches, stating that he only needs to hear what he's used to hear, along with Lumine's voice.
- “Today, I walked alone on the beaches of Guyun Stone Forest and picked up several Starconches along the way. I heard that they contain secrets and can be used to send messages. But when I put them to my ear, I heard no voice, just the hollow sound of the wind. No matter. The wrath of evil spirits, omens of calamity... and your voice. That's all I need to hear. When you're free, come talk to me about what you've heard from the Starconches.”
- “This leaf was sticking to your clothes, so I removed it for you. You want to keep it? I see... Holding on to something that goes with the wind seems unnecessary. But... you can have it.”
In the blog post for 2022, Lumine describes what she hears in the Starconches like Xiao had asked. She thinks about the fact that Xiao works all day to protect Liyue, so he doesn't know anything about the other side of the sea. She knows he probably won't agree to travel outside of Liyue, so Lumine decides to simply tell him stories about her adventures and make him dishes from overseas in hopes it will make Xiao feel like he's traveling with her.
Lumine makes Unagi Chazuke for him, an Inazuman dish. Xiao reminded her beforehand that he won't eat it if it doesn't taste good, but he actually eats up the whole dish. He calls it convenient since it's not too hot and can be eaten quickly which startles Lumine since she didn't think he'd like it. Xiao apologizes for not being able to think of proper words to compliment it, but Lumine thinks Xiao eating all of it is already the greatest compliment.

In the letter, he narrates how he paid a visit to an old friend and they organized a dinner for his birthday, stating that in the past he would have refused, but thanks to the Traveller's influence, he's starting to appreciate more the people's company.

Xiao gifted Lumine his specialty version almond tofu, "Sweet Dreams", and 1 Dream solvent. In the letter he expresses how he has been dreaming of the traveler as of late, and how he hadn’t liked dreaming before. He tells Lumine that maybe if he sees her he’ll know why, so as usual tells her if she wants to just call his name.

It is one of the most popular ships for Lumine and Xiao, rivaling ChiLumi and Xiaother. Until the date, more than 2,300 fanfics of Xiaolumi were created in A3O, and many fans of the game are eager to keep seeing their relationship growing closer.
The ship first gained traction after the Liyue Archon Quest, especially once "Act 3: A New Star Approaches" was released which contained the cutscene of Xiao reuniting with Lumine in the balcony of Wangshuu Inn and saving her from falling from the Jade chamber, to subsequently show concern for her wellbeing while grabbing her hand. Followed by the annual Lantern Rite events and Xiao's story quest, the ship has had a steady fandom ever since. Lots of fanarts were published ever since, with many of them portraying Xiao and Lumine watching the Lantern Rite in Liyue harbor or spending time together in Wangshuu Inn. Over time more content was released, such as close interactions together, the teapot system and promotional stuff such as the birthday letters, leading to an increase in popularity.
After the 2.7 version update containing the Perilous Trail Archon Quest, a spike of fan content could be seen on social media. This was due to many scenes emphasizing on the characters' closeness and care for each other, such as Lumine trying to call for Xiao and worrying for his safety, Yanfei recognizing their closeness, Xiao taking a last look on Lumine before teleporting everyone to safety, him opening up to her about the yakshas' past and smiling when she mentions they're heroes, etc. Progressively, Xiao slowly has been opening up to Lumine and showing his care by offering her protection, acting somewhat overprotective and constantly reminding her to call for him if she ever needs help despite being aware of her strength and deeds.
XiaoLumi has one of the longest standing histories and dynamics between the protagonist and any playable character. Their relationship has greatly developed over time and they have evidently grown closer, to the point where even some characters notice their closeness, such as Paimon, Yanfei, Shenhe, Zhongli and even Hu Tao. Fans enjoy this development and see a lot of potential in it, appreciating how Lumine not only gets Xiao to open up to her, but also become more recipient to interact with other cast members after becoming friends. One detail that many fans noticed is how Xiao's voice is considerably softer when speaking to Lumine, considering their chemistry very heartwarming due to their Opposites Attract dynamic, as Lumine's sociable personality greatly complements Xiao's more reserved attitude by acting as a support and source of trust for him.

- The background soundtrack that plays when Lumine first meets Xiao at Wangshu Inn is titled Lovers’ Oath.
- Interestingly enough, the soundtrack's Chinese title is — “蒲苇如丝”, which means «The love between two people will last forever».
- In the Version 2.2 web event, "Tuned to the World's Sounds", the player performs "Lovers' Oath" together with Xiao in a duet. Additionally, the place where they perform is the balcony on Wangshu Inn where they first met.
- This soundtrack is not used anywhere else in the game.
- In «Collected Miscellany - “Xiao: Conqueror of Demons”», Dainsleif states the following: "Will Xiao be ravaged by the unending war he wages and be plunged into despair? Or will he meet someone who understands his sacrifice and can shine a ray of light into his dark world?". That "someone" is commonly speculated to be Lumine given the connotations of her presence bringing light to Xiao and her desire to help him.

- In the Feline Fortress Furrdyssey event Lumine suggests naming the cat either Tofu or Pudding, another title for Almond tofu, Almond Pudding, perhaps she was thinking of Xiao due to the cat being nervous around people.
