XingTao is the het ship between Xingqiu and Hu Tao from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
Hu Tao and Xingqiu are both best friends according to their voicelines and Hu Tao's 5th character story. When they first met, they immediately hit it off and became close friends quickly. They compose poetry together and even have poetic spars.
They were featured fighting the Primo Geovishap together in PlayStation®5 Announcement Trailer. Even in gameplay, their playstyles are made for each other. No other hydro character vaporises Hu Tao's charged attacks as well as Xingqiu, to the point Hu Tao practically needs him to reach her damage potential. Xingqiu is Hu Tao's best support and utility character, and a Hu Tao team is incomplete without him.
In the TGA 2022 Genshin Impact Entry Video, Hu Tao Asked Xingqiu if he wanted to come over for tea. They were talking in Liyue Harbor beside a food stall.
According to their voicelines, Xingqiu is one of the few people in Liyue who see Hu Tao in a positive light and gets along with her. He genuinely wants to understand her by finding out what she's really after. Hu Tao, the only one in Liyue who knows Xingqiu writes stories, likes to tell Xingqiu about her adventures so he can incorporate her stories in his writings.
Character Story[]
Hu Tao is best known for her the creation of poetry. She dubs herself the "versemonger of the darkest alleys," and free verse flows forth untamed from her mouth whenever she has free time to be out on the streets. The "Hilitune" is Hu Tao's most famous work, well-loved not only by the people of the harbor, but ever on the lips of children as far as Qingce Village as well. Hence, she became quite famous and hobbyists and critics often talked about her.
Xingqiu, ever immersed in books, also wanted to meet this strange person, and so chose an auspicious date to visit, bringing a gift with him. The two hit it off immediately, and they exchanged pointers and impromptu poetry in Wangsheng's main hall — and when faced with the poetry of Xingqiu's traditional, artistic bent, Hu Tao could always return in kind with some strange and marvelous verse.
And there was meaning in the chaos, indeed, a rhythm to the bizarre that anyone could perceive, and it was catchy, too. Thus did she "beat the old master with untrained fists," leaving Xingqiu at a loss for words. At length, the poetic spar ended amiably, and they have been friends ever since, reading and composing poetry with one another when they have the time to meet. Over time, Chongyun, too, was pulled in to serve as an umpire, their laughter filling the streets. The poems born from these sessions would also be recorded by bystanders.

Events[]
In Moonchase festival cutscene, Hu Tao, Xiangling, Xinyan, Chongyun, and Xingqiu were seen playing together in a flashback as children, implying they may have been friends when they were younger.
Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Xiangling, and Chongyun, were also featured on Hu Tao's first event banner, Moment of Bloom 2021-03-02, which has been interpeted as a sign of the four's friendship. Hu Tao and Xingqiu were again featured together with Beidou and Ningguang in Moment of Bloom 2023-02-07, which is another sign of how close they are, given that Beidou and Ningguang, an iconic duo, was featured alongside them.
Lantern Rite[]
In Lantern Rite 2023, Hu Tao invites her close friends to a banquet at Xinyue Kiosk. After Xiao narrates how Hu Tao "convinced" him to attend the banquet, Xingqiu says that it does sound like one of Hu Tao's antics, implying he knows very well what kind of antics Hu Tao does. When Venti arrives at the party, he immediately recognizes Xingqiu as Zhenyu. To this, Hu Tao reacts saying "Mm? Zhenyu?" This implies that while Hu Tao knows that Xingqiu writes stories, she still doesn't know his secret pen name and that he's officially an author. When everyone was deciding who should light the incense, Xiangling suggests Xingqiu should do it. To this, Hu Tao agrees because if the commerce guild's young master lights the incense, they'll be sure to make a lot of profits.
After the party is over, Hu Tao, Xingqiu, Xiangling and Chongyun leave together. When we find them together at docks later, where they talk about how Xingqiu met Venti. At the dinner table, Xiangling and Chongyun were convinced by Xingqiu's lie, but not Hu Tao. She asks Xingqiu to be honest. Caught on with the lie, Xingqiu asks Hu Tao why she's inquiring all of this. Hu Tao says that since Venti has an extraordinary demeanor and literary talent, its impossible for him to just be an random bard, he is at least as talented as her. Xingqiu tries to dodge the topic, but eventually agrees to tell them the "truth". He says that he's actually a fan of Venti's poetry, and Venti didn't want to tell everyone the truth at the dinner table because he didn't want to embarrass Xingqiu. This convinces Xiangling and Chongyun. Xingqiu's new fake story is further backed up by "proof" from Chongyun, who falsely believes that the poetry books Xingqiu bought were Venti's poetry. Hearing all this, Hu Tao doesn't have a counter-argument, and tells everyone to just drop the topic. She was there to have fun with her all 4 of her closest friends. She proposes to go shopping, or play Hide-n-Seek or Hopscotch. Chongyun also suggests they borrow a mahjong set.
There's a difference in the way Hu Tao refers to Xingqiu at the dinner table compared to when she was alone with her four close friends. Hu Tao calls him "Master Xingqiu" in a formal way, while in person she casually and informally calls him Xingqiu. She also lied about escorting her friends home because we find them at the docks late at night and they plan to go shopping and play majong together, implying they'll hang out till dawn.
Waterborne Poetry[]
Hu Tao and Venti organize and co-host a Poetry Gala at Stone Gate. They have prepared three themes over the course of three days, and the theme for the first day is "Riddle Me This". Xingqiu becomes the winner of the first event and gladly accepts the prize from Hu Tao, which is a buy one get one coupon of "high-end customized service package" from Wangsheng Funeral Parlor. Later, when Xingqiu explains what non-human entity Chongyun encountered in a riddle form, Hu Tao guesses they encountered a "ghastly little ghosty" in the wild.
The next day, Venti reveals the second poetry theme, Pairing Couplets (the poetry spars which Hu Tao and Xingqiu used to play ever since they first met are called Pairing Couplets). After everyone is done with their inspiration walks, the Pairing Couplets competition begins, with Zhongli as the Judge. Hu Tao joins the team opposite to Xingqiu, standing against him. Xingqiu kickstarts the event with the first line in the couplet.
But since the poetry was becoming too conventional, Hu Tao encourages them to go nuts! Upon hearing this, Xingqiu challenges Hu Tao directly, saying, "Oh? In that case, why dont you finish this one for me, Hu Tao?" The line Hu Tao counters with leaves Xingqiu shocked. Zhongli declares this is a special case called a "pedants couplet". The two halves have no thematic connection... Yet each word has its perfect parallel, meaning the two halves do form a cohesive whole. This is similar to when Hu Tao and Xingqiu's Couplet Poetry was described as chaotic yet rythmic, one line strict and the other playful, in Hu Tao's Character Story 5

Fanon[]
Xingtao is one of Xingqiu's most popular ships after Xingyun. This ship sailed due to them initially being inseparable in gameplay, and them having poetic spars as her character story 5 reveals, or as fans like to call it 'rap battles'. Moreover, their poetry battles would make a fun rivals to lovers set up. Some people also prefer this ship over Xingyun due to Chongyun having a problem with both of them, and they both prank Chongyun, hence making this ship the ultimate prankster power couple. Fans like to call them "Chongyun's Worst Nightmare" Their designs are also very similar, both having bell sleeves and shorts. Its also seems that Xingqiu likes Hu Tao more than most people do because when Hu Tao was released, Xingqiu was one of the only characters (alongside Xiao) who did not complain about her in their voicelines. Although this has now changed with Yanfei, Shenhe, and Yun Jin's releases, she still remains disliked among Liyue's general citizenry.
Fans also like their dynamic due to their conflicting personalities and elements, like Xingqiu's high reputation vs Hu Tao's disregard for it in general. Also Hu tao seems like 'All play and no work' on first impression and Xingqiu comes off as "All work and no play", despite the fact if anything that's the opposite of the truth since Hu Tao's life is practically centered around her job, while Xingqiu centers his life around everything but his guild- justice, reading and writing, adventure, martial arts, etc. And yet despite every difference they share they're still close friends and work together.
Lantern Rite 2023 was a treat to Xingtao fans, since the event shows the amount of closeness between not just Xingqiu and Hu Tao, but all 4 friends. It also shows just how well Hu Tao knows Xingqiu and can read him, given how she caught on with his lies quickly. But Xingqiu covers it up in the end swiftly as well, implying he also knows Hu Tao inside out. Fans like to see them as the power couple that could figure out each other's feelings without saying a word.
The Waterborne Poetry event was not just a treat, but a whole feast. Since it gives a glimpse of their shared talent and interest for poetry and how they used to play Pairing Couplets. Since Xingqiu asked Hu Tao specifically to complete his verse when she asked everyone to go nuts, one can headcanon that he wanted to spar like the good old days with her. They were so in sync from years of sparring they formed a pedants' couplet, reflecting how they parallel each other and form a perfect couple.
While Xingqiu and Hu Tao are a liked pairing, lots of people also see them as close friends along with Chongyun, Xiangling, and sometimes Xinyan and Yunjin; forming the 'Liyue Kids' friends group. The pairing rivals with Xingqiu's most popular ship, Xingyun and Hu Tao's most popular ship, YanTao. Many fans also ship them in a poly ship: Xingqiu x Hu Tao x Chongyun x Xiangling.
