Your Turn To Die[]

One time when Reko and Alice were kids, Alice asked Reko if playing an instrument is fun. He said that watching her play the piano makes him want to play too. Reko promised to teach him, as long as he doesn't get bored of it. Alice then suggested that someday, the two of them should make a band. Alice would write the songs and Reko would sing them.

The two actually go on to create a band like they thought of, called Samurai Yaiba, along with two other members. Reko played guitar and did vocals, while Alice, although he couldn't actually play anything, is on the drums. According to him, it was to round up the numbers and do management tasks. At this time, Reko antagonized everyone, and was cold even to her brother. During their time together in the band, Alice gifted Reko some bongos as a joke gift.

Sometime after, Alice was called to meet with a man named Sou Hiyori at a cafe Reko frequented. While Hiyori was out of his seat, Alice snooped through his briefcase, and found many pictures of Reko, along with "Death game plans" and "participant lists". When Hiyori returned, Alice furiously asked just what he's going to do with Reko. Somehow, Hiyori ended up falling off the second-floor terrace, impaling himself on the fence. He didn't even bleed, but Alice was framed as a murderer.

Without knowing the truth of the incident, not even who the supposed victim was, a distraught Reko could not bear to sing her band's songs thinking a murderer had written them, so she disbanded the group and cut contact with Alice.

Hiyori, who Reko happened to know, contacted her saying he knew the truth of Alice's case, and met up with her at the same cafe he did previously with Alice. Hiyori explained it was false charges, and that a powerful force is trying to bring ruin to their family. Hiyori offered her a consent form, saying if she signed it, her wish to have Alice released and talk to him again will come true. Reko, in her torn state over Alice's situation, signed the form.

Later that day, Hiyori posed as a prison guard and talked to Alice. He also offered Alice a consent form, and Alice signed it in a rage, hoping that it would essentially end Hiyori's life for real.

Thanks to Alice and Reko both signing the consent form, the two are reunited by the Death Game. After Sara carries the unconscious Alice to the Pink Room, Reko is incredibly surprised to see him there. Once he is awake and they are alone, Reko tells him to pretend they are strangers, because she doesn't want everyone to be scared of her because she is related to a murderer. Thus, when Alice introduces himself to the participants, he haphazardly comes up with the alias "Gonbee Yamada" to respect Reko's wishes.

During the first Main Game, through Gin and Sara's paper scraps they put together, the name "Alice Yabusame", with the occupation "Murderer" surfaces. This immediately puts suspicion on Reko, whose last name is known as Yabusame. Reko is cornered, with no way to object to people's claims. Seeing his sister in trouble, Alice comes forth as Alice Yabusame and implores that Reko did nothing wrong in order to save her. At that point the truth of their relation is learned. Alice says that he is just a simple murderer, but Reko is different, that she's a good and proper person.

Later on, during Chapter 2 Part 1, Sara is able to accept Alice's sidequest by negotiating with him. He reveals that there is a treasure for purchase in the Prize Exchange for 20 of Reko's Me-tokens. Sara believes it may be the bongos that he had originally gifted to Reko, as Reko had previously stated that the kidnappers had taken away her "precious bongos". Sara tells Alice to collect Reko's tokens so he can buy the instrument, but Alice says he is unable to speak with her. Sara offers to help, and brings him Reko's tokens the next morning. Although Alice becomes nauseous at first, he buys Reko's treasure which does turn out to be her bongos. Alice declares he wants to apologize even just once to Reko before he dies.

Alice then goes and talks to Reko. He shows her the bongos, and tells her he was surprised to have found them, since he thought she had long since thrown them away. Reko says she had always thought about doing it, but never could. Alice gives Reko a heartfelt apology and offers the bongos to Reko. Reko suddenly turns hostile and breaks the bongos, reiterating that the two of them are strangers now. Alice said he will always remember that he's taken another person's life, but Reko just sees that a reason for them to never interact again. She calls him a murderer before walking away, both of them ending up crying.

Time ticks on and everyone participates in the final Sub-Game of the third floor, the Arbitration Room. When it comes out that "Reko" may actually be a fake, Alice continually defends her, saying that he has known her for 20 years, and her behavior, personality, and slightest gestures are telltale that it is the real Reko.

In the end, Sara decides the siblings' fates. In the route where Sara pushes the fake Reko down the pit, Alice angrily asks if it really was a doll, making Sara second guess herself. Alice rushes off to the Room of Lies, asking to see Reko. Alice is taunted by Ranger implying that she is already dead. Alice is enraged by her death and seeing Safalin bring out the fake's head which he believes to be real. Ranger tosses the head at him, and it explodes, killing him. Reko is revealed to have been hidden inside the Room of Lies the whole time. She begs him not to die on her. By some miracle, Alice is revived, only for a moment, to give his sister a weak smile. Reko tells him that just once more, they'll be brother and sister again, before Alice closes his eyes forever. Reko mourns Alice, blaming herself and feeling regretful for not forgiving Alice. Later on, Safalin offers to erase Reko's traumatic memories of Alice, but Reko refuses because she feels they never had that many to begin with.

In the route where Sara refrains from pushing the fake Reko, Alice arrives at the Room of Lies just after Reko was stabbed and the fake exploded. He refuses to believe that Reko died and declares that she is so much more than Alice, and that her life has value. He calls her his one and only sister. Alice bitterly mourns Reko, having lost all hope. Later on, Safalin offers to erase Alice's traumatic memories of Reko, to which he agrees.

Your Time To Shine[]

In Your Time to Shine, Alice is there to mourn Reko in two of her death scenes and Reko is there to mourn Alice in all three of his death scenes. They do this regardless of the fact that Alice goes solely by the alias "Gonbee Yamada" and his true name and relation to Reko is never revealed.

Quotes[]

Your Turn To Die[]

Alice“Indeed, I am... a damned criminal!! And Reko cut me off as well, saying to never show her my mug again! And yet... It's not even funny!! To think we'd reunite in this place...!!”
Reko“Me and him are total strangers at this point. I didn't want Kanna and the rest being scared of me 'cause of this guy... So when he woke up, I told him to hide our relation.”
— During the first Main Game, Alice's identity revealed.
Keiji“Why're you listening from the wall? Isn't she your sister?”
Alice“How annoying! We're strangers now, I tell you!! ... Reko... is surely singing with pure feelings out of grief for the dead. I don't care to introduce unnecessary distraction with my presence.”
— Chapter 2, Part One beginning.
“There's... not enough time left to do this in the proper order... So just once before I die, I... I want to apologize to Reko...”
— Alice, Day 2 Morning, Alice's sidequest.
Sara“Your brother... Tell me what kind of person Alice is to you!!”
Reko“A-Alice...?! Alice... ain't my brother anymore...!! We're complete strangers... I... sent him a letter saying as much, while he was in prison. I still don't get it... Why'd Alice kill somebody...? I couldn't even... bring myself to look into who the victim was. ...Wonder why? Maybe 'cause if I did, I'd have to recognize Alice's crime as reality... I thought he was a pretty lousy brother, but... I... I didn't hate him.”
— The Final Attraction.

Your Time To Shine[]

“Long ago... I used to make things like this [shell necklace]... ...And always gave them to a certain someone, because it made her happy. And since she liked cool things, I always picked out the most rugged shells... Little wonder she kicked me when they started digging into her neck. She truly... used to smile often then. Both her thanks and her complaints were said cheerfully...”
— Kai's story, Gonbee's fondess event 3.
Gonbee“With the way I am now, we're...”
Kai“Ill-matched, like these shells?”
Gonbee“...! ... Haha... indeed. Appearing a poor fit at first, but striking a beautiful balance... Truly, what a fine combination...”
— Kai's story, Gonbee's fondness event 3.

Fanon[]

The familyship sailed as a result of Reko and Alice canonically being siblings. Fan arts and fan fictions often portray the two back when they were in a band together. Others reference their feud over the years or making up during the game. Their relationship is often portrayed as fairly chaotic. Alice usually tries to be as kind as he can to Reko, while Reko acts more aggressive towards Alice. Due to Alice having a lower win rate than Reko, many think that there were many times in the simulations that Alice sacrificed himself for Reko.

People (especially in the Eastern fandom) actually do genuinely ship them in a more "implying" way. Some of them like to ship them together and interpret that they have a romantic interest in one another or others just like to think it's one-sided on Alice's side or vice versa with Reko. So, technically this ship can be interpreted as a het ship, familyship, or friend ship. This ship is very ignored due to it being incestuous in the Western fandom if in a romantic way.
