YoiTao is the femslash ship between Naganohara Yoimiya and Hu Tao from the Genshin Impact fandom.
Canon[]
Yoimiya and Hu Tao have never canonically interacted nor mentioned each other throughout the story line. The two live in different regions, Hu Tao living in Liyue and Yoimiya living in Inazuma.
Naganohara Yoimiya and Hu Tao have somewhat of a connection with butterflies. Naganohara Yoimiya has a butterfly necklace, meanwhile butterflies appear when Hu tao sprints. Hu Tao's elemental skill, 'Guide to the Afterlife', is also a butterfly icon. This is because in Chinese myths and superstition, it is believed that butterflies and moths are the souls of relatives returning to visit them, especially when it happens during or after a funeral. Either the souls of our relatives have regrets or are simply saying goodbye before silently fluttering away.
Considering the fact that Yoimiya and Hu Tao are both the head of their respective associations and are somehow called troublemakers in their respective regions, it can be speculated that they would get along pretty well. Even their jobs are a contrast. Funerals are associated with sadness and a heavy atmosphere while fireworks are used in celebrations and festivals. They are both loud, cheerful and extrovert girls who are also hardworking and serious at times.
Both also share other similarities, like having a parental figure who is way older and very impactful in their lives - that being Yoimiya's father and Hu Tao's Grandpa. Yoimiya and Hu Tao have similar color schemes that could blend together aesthetically, and both have a pyro vision.
Fanon[]
YoiTao is a relatively popular ship from the Genshin Impact fandom, despite the two characters having no on-screen interaction. Mostly, due to Yoimiya and Hu Tao's energetic personality or due to the butterfly motifs the two have. Some speculate that Hu Tao gave Yoimiya her butterfly necklace. YoiTao is mostly interpreted as an 'Long-Distance Relationship' trope since they are from different regions.
In early June, YoiTao has found itself being seen as a newly found rarepair, only enjoyed by a few players. In the later months of 2021 and 2022, the Genshin Impact fandom has increased the number of works and arts. There is a bit of fan art of the pairing as well as 36+ works on AO3. In the Genshin Impact x Lawson Crossover, Hu Tao and Yoimiya were both featured in the Promotion Art. Most YoiTao fans who saw this were happy, and seeing this some non-YoiTao fans have even started shipping YoiTao.
