Both are students in the Ultimate Academy for Gifted Juveniles and participants for the killing game.
In the prologue when first meeting Angie, Kaede thought she was pretty cheerful despite the situation they were in. Kaede also takes notice of how devout Angie is to her island's god, Atua. After Angie explains her talent as the ultimate artist, Kaede asks Angie to show her some of her artwork. Angie agrees in exchange for an offering. When Kaede asks about the offering, Angie states that it's a pint or two of her blood. Kaede passes the idea, claiming she was anemic, and thinks of Angie as weird.
At the end of Chapter One's first class trial, Kaede is found guilty in the murder of Rantaro and is then executed. After she is executed, Angie prays to Atua to grant Kaede eternal rest in heaven. Inferring she forgave Kaede for her deed and wanted Kaede to rest in peace.
In her first Free Time Events with Kaede, Angie thanks Kaede for inviting her to hang out and comments she felt their destinies intertwining and she can't help but feel fascinated with Kaede. Angie explains to Kaede she's able to create her artwork because Atua fills her with divine inspiration. She asks if Kaede feels that same inspiration when playing the piano, to which Kaede responds "no". Kaede explains she isn't just playing a score, but interpreting the music her own way. Angie sees this as Kaede not being introduced to Atua yet, the latter stating she doesn't need to be introduced and can live without Atua. Angie responds that's unfortunate that the ultimate pianist has no desire to accept Atua, but if she changes her mind, to let her know.
In her second Free Time Event with Kaede, Angie (using the word of Atua) wants to do a paint-and-piano jam session (though neither knows how to fuse painting and music together) but claims Atua will show them the way. Kaede doubts this, pretty sure it's just Angie talking and comes to the assumption that she is lonely, but nonetheless, Kaede agrees. Kaede offers to let Angie hear her play the piano and asks her what type of song she wanted to hear. Angie requests something to make her feel divine. Despite the difficult request, Kaede agrees. However as Kaede is playing the piano, Angie falls asleep, much to her shock. Angie stars talking in her sleep about needing a sacrifice. Presuming she's having a nightmare, Kaede wakes her up. Angie states that she had a wonderful dream thanks to Kaede's music and was starting to like the ultimate pianist's music, wanting to have a paint-and-piano jam session soon. Although she'd never accept Atua, Kaede thinks it wouldn't be so bad to get along with Angie and that they can exchange artistic ideas with each other.
Yonamatsu is a rarepair amongst the danganronpa fandom. The ship is overshadowed by other ships such as hetero ships like Saimatsu and Shinnaga, and is rivaled by other femslash ships such as Shironaga, Yonameno, Tenkangie, Irumatsu, and Nursery Rhymes.
Fans ship the two for both of their positive and optimistic personalities, and because Kaede is one of the few people (besides Shuichi) who can see past Angie's cheerful personality and realizes how lonely she is.
- Both Kaede and Angie's zodiac symbols are Aries.
- If her FTE's with Kaede are canon, that would make Angie the only character to have heard Kaede playing the piano before the killings had begun.
