Canon[]

Volume 1[]

While sitting on a bench and eating together, Yoshiki expresses disbelief that ‘Hikaru’ doesn’t remember being missing for over a week in the mountains. ‘Hikaru’ casually asks how long Yoshiki plans to keep bringing it up, Yoshiki shoves his head and insists it wasn’t all right, everyone had been worried sick about him. ‘Hikaru’ tells him to quit messing with his hair, then grins and teases, “So ya missed me when I was gone?”. Yoshiki tries to deny it, saying he didn’t, but ‘Hikaru’ jokes that he’s lying and playfully mimics him crying, “Waaah! Don’t leave me all alone, Hikaru!”.

YoshiKaru 2

Please don't tell anyone...- ‘Hikaru’

Their conversation shifts when Yoshiki suddenly gathers the courage to ask, “Can I ask ya somethin’ that might sound kinda weird?”. ‘Hikaru’ jokes, “What is it? Gonna confess yer feelings to me?” but Yoshiki’s expression turns serious as he asks, “You ain’t the real Hikaru, are ya?”. ‘Hikaru’ freezes in shock before his face begins to twist as black ooze seeps from one eye as he admits, “I’m s’posed to be a perfect copy of him…”. ‘Hikaru’ hugs him and begs him not to tell anyone. He admits to borrowing Hikaru’s body and memories, insisting his feelings for Yoshiki are real and doesn’t want to kill him. Yoshiki silently crying know the real Hikaru is dead and chooses to keep him by his side even if he is fake. He agrees not to tell anyone, accepting the situation but feels still uneasy about it.

On the way back home the following day, Yoshiki confronts ‘Hikaru’ asking if the real Hikaru is truly gone. ‘Hikaru’ confirms it with a quiet yes, explaining that while the body feels alive, he was already dead. He remembers how he wandered the mountains without feeling anything, until he found Hikaru moments from death and before he realized it, he had taken his form. Yoshiki asks ‘Hikaru’ about his feelings towards him, ‘Hikaru’ confesses that he likes Yoshiki and is crazy for him, in which the real Hikaru had never expressed to him. Yoshiki tells him to never disappear on him again.

Forest Trail[]

YoshiKaru 3

Yoshiki makes sure ‘Hikaru’ is alright.

When they’re on the trail, Yoshiki begins to see a spirit. ‘Hikaru’ gets his attention by saying his name. ‘Hikaru’ immediately notices Yoshiki saw something he shouldn’t have and tells him to come to him. He intervenes to protect him, absorbing the spirit into himself that leaves him with a nosebleed. Yoshiki quickly rushes to his side after hearing the bang and watching him fall. He makes sure if he was alright. Later, ‘Hikaru’ tells Yoshiki to not look at anything but him, because the other ‘filth’ gets lonely and will want to take him. He then says he should only be looking and sticking to him too. Once they got out of the forest everyone checked in on each other, including Yuuki who asks Yoshiki if he’s alright while blushing. ‘Hikaru’ then has a flashback about Hikaru’s dad, who was warning the real Hikaru that if he ever found a lover, to quickly marry them or Unuki-sama would take them away due to it's loneliness. ‘Hikaru’ thinks to himself since he won't be taking him, he can always be with him and it’ll be ok as long as he stays by his side to protect him. ‘Hikaru’ gives Yoshiki a smile and says he needs to makes sure no one else takes him.

Gym Storage Room[]

A few days later, ‘Hikaru’ ends up getting accidentally injured from Asako during a volleyball match prompting a trip to the nurse’s office. As they sit together, they begin chatting to each other and ‘Hikaru’ says he doesn’t really have a sense of pain. He doesn’t know how to explain so he tells Yoshiki he’ll offer to show him his “insides” after school.

At the end of the day, ‘Hikaru’ ends up dragging Yoshiki to the gym storage room while students go to their clubs. Standing between his legs he begins to unbutton his shirt, which flusters both of them, Yoshiki especially but ‘Hikaru’ continues. When Yoshiki turns back to him, he sees a dark rift down the center of his chest and as it opens up, blood drips from the bottom near his belly button which worries Yoshiki. Yoshiki wonders what the heck is that on ‘Hikaru’s chest. ‘Hikaru’ encourages him with a coy, “Why don’tcha try stickin’ yer hand in?”. ‘Hikaru’ then thrusts Yoshiki’s hand in suddenly, which draws a reaction from him as he says he felt something enter him as well. ‘Hikaru’, flushed, admits, “It’s been a while since I’ve felt somethin’ alive inside me,” and directs Yoshiki to go deeper. This entire scene flusters Yoshiki, but he quickly notices that it also drew some reaction from ‘Hikaru’ from the sounds and way he was reacting. It seemed to mirror some form of intimacy in a symbolic manner and in the light novel Yoshiki internally asks himself if ‘Hikaru’ had “ever taken living things inside in some other way” before this.[4]

As this progressed, ‘Hikaru’ suddenly pulled Yoshiki in which scared him, so he quickly withdrew his hand. As ‘Hikaru’ closes the rift on his body, ‘Hikaru’ laughs and assures Yoshiki, “C’mon! It ain’t dirty or anythin’.” As Yoshiki turned back, he looked up at ‘Hikaru’ who was still half undressed. ‘Hikaru’ noticed he was looking at him and jokingly lift his shirt, saying, “I’ll give ya a show that’ll get yer nose bleedin’!” causing Yoshiki to fluster. ‘Hikaru’ noticed this and ask what is wrong. While looking away, Yoshiki abruptly slaps his hand away, visibly upset. ‘Hikaru’ momentarily stunned, noticed that he didn't like it and tries to laughs it off. It was followed by a light moment of Yoshiki joking while touching his hair and ‘Hikaru’ replying in a soft manner causing Yoshiki to laugh.

Eating watermelons together[]

After Yoshiki is approached by Kurebayashi, he begins to have reservations about his relationship with ‘Hikaru’, is it really right?. Yoshiki visits ‘Hikaru’s house and brings a watermelon. As he steps inside and sees ‘Hikaru’ lying sprawled on the floor, cooling off in front of a fan, Yoshiki can’t help but pause and just watch him. ‘Hikaru’ eventually wakes up and teases, “You just gonna sit there and stare at me? Yer not gonna wake me up?” before tackling Yoshiki. After the roughhousing dies down, ‘Hikaru’s eyes light up at the sight of the watermelon. “Hooray! I won. Didja bring somethin’ when ya got here earlier?” he says. When Yoshiki confirms it’s from one of his relatives, ‘Hikaru’ proudly declares, “I’m the best in the world at eatin’ those things!” As they settle in to eat, ‘Hikaru’ excitedly bites in, followed by a loud eating, completely oblivious to Yoshiki’s stare. Yoshiki steadily begins to feel worse and worse and after eating watermelon with ‘Hikaru’. After joking about swallowing the seeds, ‘Hikaru’ suddenly grows quiet. As Yoshiki sits across from him, clearly overwhelmed,‘Hikaru’ lies down for a nap, as he’s turned around he tells Yoshiki that he really does enjoy just being with Yoshiki and he just wants to be honest about his feelings while blushing. This only weighs on Yoshiki more the more he feels worse. Yoshiki gazes at their old graduation photo and mutters, “That’s from our grade school graduation ceremony…” he reflects, “Hikaru was the only kid in the village around my age. So me an’ Hikaru’ve always been together.” He grapples with the unsettling reality that the Hikaru he once knew may be gone. Yoshiki sent Kurebayashi a text message and leaves to see something from ‘Hikaru’s mom. Later, a message pops up on Yoshiki’s phone from Kurebayashi saying “Feel like talking now?”. ‘Hikaru’ groggily reads it and wonders who is this person.

Volume 2[]

Early Dismissal[]

Yoshiki’s uneasiness about keeping ‘Hikaru’ around only grows after meeting and talking with Kurebayashi. Yoshiki is the only one left in the class when ‘Hikaru’ comes in so they can walk home together as usual. Yoshiki replies in a harsh manner which makes ‘Hikaru’ suspicious since he had seen him texting someone unknown. ‘Hikaru’ grips Yoshiki’s arm tightly in desperation. They begin to argue which causes Yoshiki to lash out.‘Hikaru’ breaks down in front of Yoshiki, confessing how deeply conflicted and lost he feels. With tears streaming down his face, he admits that he’s dependent on Yoshiki calling him his “first” and saying he’s “useless without” him. He questions whether the feelings he’s experiencing are truly his own or remnants of the real Hikaru’s emotions. As Hikaru cries out that, despite knowing it’s not right, he still has strong feelings for Yoshiki and can’t stop them. This causes a reaction in which ‘Hikaru’ accidentally lets out his inhuman side. He unintentionally attacks Yoshiki and almost kills him. Once ‘Hikaru’ is able to stabilize himself, they are both left crying on the floor, ‘Hikaru’ begins to speak, saying “No I can’t… He’s the only one I…” before apologizing and leaving the class, asking Yoshiki to please not hate him.

The following day, ‘Hikaru’ is missing from class, Asako and Yuuki take notice and tell Yoshiki that it seemed like ‘Hikaru’ had been following him around a lot and showing a lot of affection, so if they fought they should make up. Yoshiki realizes that it seems like ‘Hikaru’ just really doesn’t know anything and goes to his house to apologize for yelling at him.

Upon arrival, Yoshiki finds ‘Hikaru’ wrapped in a blanket in the corner of his room. Yoshiki apologizes right away, which confuses ‘Hikaru’ since he believes is the one who did something wrong, considering he almost killed him. Yoshiki refutes this, attributing it to the fact he yelled at ‘Hikaru’. As Yoshiki goes to reach out to ‘Hikaru’ he flinches back, ‘Hikaru’ thinks he is scared of him because of what happened the previous day in the class, but it’s not. Yoshiki reveals the reason he flinched back was due to the fact the blanket was covering almost all of ‘Hikaru’, but left a slit which reminded him of the time when he put his hand inside ‘Hikaru’ in the storage room.[2] Yoshiki reassures ‘Hikaru’ that he’s not scared of him, but ‘Hikaru’ doesn’t believe him.

‘Hikaru’ then comes out of the blanket crying and apologizing for what he did profusely and how he’ll never do it again. He also says he doesn’t care who Yoshiki meets up with and he’ll be ok if he just gets to be by his side. Yoshiki gets flustered from the proximity of their faces, he describes that their noses were brushing against each other. ‘Hikaru’ begins rubbing his head on Yoshiki’s chest, which draws affection from him. Yoshiki begins running his hands through ‘Hikaru’s’ hair, lifting his head to see his face as he cries. He acknowledges that ‘Hikaru’ is dangerous, but brushes it aside. He then runs that hand down to his hand to hold it affectionately as he rubs it, realizing that ‘Hikaru’ is just immature and doesn’t know what it means to be human. He tells ‘Hikaru’ that all this time he’s probably just been lonely, which is infers from the way ‘Hikaru’ reacted in jealousy to him meeting up with a stranger. He decides that since ‘Hikaru’ doesn’t know anything, he’ll just have to teach him. Yoshiki in this moment also realizes that the way ‘Hikaru’ acts is very different from Hikaru and fully accepts them as two different people, he states that he’s in love with ‘Hikaru’.[2]

Festival[]

After talking about Hikaru for a while, Yoshiki begins to cry. When ‘Hikaru’ makes a move to walk away and give him space, Yoshiki pulls him back down, finding comfort in ‘Hikaru’ being there. ‘Hikaru’ tells Yoshiki that he understands he won’t ever be able to fill the void Hikaru left, but he’ll do anything Yoshiki asks of him and will protect him.

Classroom[]

During home economics, ‘Hikaru’ notices Yoshiki spacing out, he asks him what is bothering him and Yoshiki tells him that the feeling of the raw chicken reminded him of when he put his hand in him. ‘Hikaru’ laughs noting that it was funny Yoshiki was thinking about that during a time like this, Yoshiki begins blushing. ‘Hikaru’ says it’s fine and suggests doing it again, which Yoshiki denies, but ‘Hikaru’ insists because it will help build Yoshiki’s resistance to the inhuman.

They go to an empty class after school where ‘Hikaru’ half undoes his shirt, Yoshiki is hesitant to do it again, but eventually does it, mentioning that it feels a little better than before. ‘Hikaru’ touches the other way to him, which scares Yoshiki, but he then mentions that part of him feels good. It begins to get too overwhelming for Yoshiki and he yells and ‘Hikaru’ to back off, which he does instantly. After talking about the situation, ‘Hikaru’ just says it was him trying to get Yoshiki used to that sort of thing, which will help in the future. Yoshiki explains that ‘Hikaru’ can’t do things others don’t like or do things without explaining them first. ‘Hikaru’ says he understands.

Volume 3[]

Bathtub[]

‘Hikaru’ comes over to Yoshiki’s house to help remove a spirit, stating once again that he’ll protect Yoshiki. While he’s in the process of it, Yoshiki hears him fall into the bathtub, worried Yoshiki runs in to find out what has happened. Yoshiki gets possessed by the spirit and proceeds to attack ‘Hikaru’. He has a flashback about a fight he had with Hikaru, causing him to unknowingly fight with ‘Hikaru’, drowning him in the process. ‘Hikaru’ manages to snap Yoshiki out of it when he bites to attack, he forces part of himself into Yoshiki.

Afterward, Yoshiki and ‘Hikaru’ sit by the door, Yoshiki worries about what just happened, wondering if he’ll end up hurting ‘Hikaru’ like that again. ‘Hikaru feels guilty he wasn’t able to protect Yoshiki like he promised.

Sparklers[]

The friend group is hanging out playing with sparklers, ‘Hikaru’ is enjoying himself, and for the first time being able to see and hold fireworks in his hands, he seems amazed by it. Yoshiki stared at him affectionately, smiling softly.

After Yoshiki walks in on ‘Hikaru’ trying to kill Asako, they get into a fight about the living. ‘Hikaru’ tells Yoshiki that he’s special to him which is why he’s never had any intention or thought about killing him. Yoshiki ends up leaving without saying anything else. ‘Hikaru’ feels incredibly guilty.

The following day, Yoshiki goes to pick up ‘Hikaru’ before starting their walk to school. Yoshiki suggests they skip school today and they go on a series of date-like outings; movies, getting ice cream, and ending up back at Yoshiki’s house. This quickly dies out because Yoshiki stabs ‘Hikaru’, as he feels responsible for ‘Hikaru’ almost killing Asako. Yoshiki tells ‘Hikaru’ that he wanted to make his final moments happy before he did this and after realizing ‘Hikaru’ can’t die he asked ‘Hikaru’ to please kill him instead. ‘Hikaru’ feels responsible for Yoshiki’s feelings and instead rips out half of his insides, making himself weak enough to be killed by a person if they wish. He tells Yoshiki that he’s always felt like he had nowhere to belong, feeling lonely and isolated, then when he took over Hikaru’s body and grew close to Yoshiki he found his place of belonging, that being Yoshiki. Yoshiki takes this to heart and tells him that he understands his feelings and they should try to figure out what ‘Hikaru’ is exactly.

Volume 4[]

Research in the library[]

On the way home after speaking to Matsuura-san’s daughter in the library, ‘Hikaru’ starts to think about the weight of life. Yoshiki still doesn’t think ‘Hikaru’ has a real grasp on what life means to humans, but regardless, he tells ‘Hikaru’ that if he kills again, he will bear that sin with him. ‘Hikaru’ is shocked at this, but he is grateful to him.

Intruder on school grounds[]

A spirit possesses someone and enters the school grounds, seemingly targeting Yoshiki, he looks away, closing his eyes and internally calling out for ‘Hikaru’. ‘Hikaru’ shows up by his side quickly. After everything calms down, as they are speaking to Asako, ‘Hikaru’ feels a stab of pain, which Yoshiki picks up on and asks if he’s ok. ‘Hikaru’ is slowly gaining more human features, this one is feeling pain.

Studying at Amerika[]

As they are studying at Amerika together, a new spirit shows up. The diner is suddenly quiet and they are left alone, apart from the sound of a bell ringing. ‘Hikaru’ instantly moves to protect Yoshiki, but it doesn’t work and he begins bleeding from his eye and nose. Yoshiki quickly moves and grabs ‘Hikaru’ trying to bring them to safety and leave, but the doors are locked and they end up passing out. Kurebayashi brings them to her house.

Kurebayashi’s Apartment[]

Once ‘Hikaru’ wakes up, his first worry is Yoshiki, who rushes to him. ‘Hikaru’ is frightened by Kurebayashi, asking if she knows anything, and Yoshiki tells him that she figured it out on her own. ‘Hikaru’ takes this as Yoshiki not trusting him, but Yoshiki assures him that he trusts him completely now, this makes ‘Hikaru’ blush. Kurebayashi asks them what they want to do about all the spirits, ‘Hikaru’ notes that while he could run away from all of this, he knows Yoshiki would never do this, looking at him with an affectionate gaze, Yoshiki is reflected in his eyes and the sparkle is in the shape of a heart. He tells Kurebayashi that he’s found the place he belongs to (Yoshiki) and he plans to protect it no matter what. This outward confession shocks Yoshiki and confidently says that he too has no intention of turning a blind eye to everything that is happening and he wants to stay with ‘Hikaru’ no matter what.

Stone Memorial[]

Yoshiki makes a stone marker grave for Hikaru and ‘Hikaru’ shows up. He’s curious about him and Hikaru and asks Yoshiki if he has feelings for him, this came from his memory of back in the storage room when ‘Hikaru’ was naked in front of him and Yoshiki became flustered. Yoshiki refuses to reply and opens ‘Hikaru’s shirt to look at his collarbones, he tells ‘Hikaru’ that he doesn’t feel anything when he looks at his body now and it’s probably better if ‘Hikaru’ didn’t understand his feelings. Yoshiki points out that humans have their own things that ‘Hikaru’ probably wouldn’t understand and tells him that it’s ok that he’s not human and actually that he prefers that ‘Hikaru’ isn’t human. ‘Hikaru’ doesn’t understand that and Yoshiki pushes ‘Hikaru’s’ head down, rubbing his hair affectionately. Yoshiki then acknowledges that they are completely different beings and it’s possible they’ll never truly understand each other, he says he wishes that there was a place where ‘Hikaru’ could be himself without hiding, and proceeds to say that for that purpose he will give his everything.

Volume 5[]

Once outside the room, they fall to the ground. Yoshiki shields ‘Hikaru’s’ head and body with his own body. He desperately tries to reattach his head, once he can, he passes out from the stress.

Hospital[]

Once Yoshiki wakes up at the hospital, he immediately asks about ‘Hikaru’. He is right by his bed, in a coma. For the next two days, it remains that way. Yoshiki comes to visit him each day. On the third day, Kurebayashi is there with them when ‘Hikaru’ wakes up. While in his coma, ‘Hikaru’ reveals that he is cold and empty and he desires to fill and take a lot inside to be satisfied. Yoshiki’s soul is warm and kind and he wants to consume it. As he wakes up, Yoshiki gets very close to him, and ‘Hikaru’ loses control of himself momentarily. It seems that Yoshiki and ‘Hikaru’ are “mixed” very deeply, causing them to have a connection that can’t be seen by the human eye, even if that person can see something more than humans.

Yoshiki is greatly worried but is very relieved that he woke up. ‘Hikaru’ is showing signs of pain and Yoshiki takes note, showing worry. Yoshiki blames himself for ‘Hikaru’ being weakened, and ‘Hikaru’ tells Yoshiki to not blame himself.

Friend Group Chat[]

During a conversation once ‘Hikaru’ leaves the hospital, ‘Hikaru’ asks the risky question of what would they do if a god-like “Unuki” switched places with someone they knew, Yoshiki freaks out at this.

Stairwell[]

Yoshiki notices ‘Hikaru’s neck is starting to hurt and rushes to him comfort him, saying he knew it would start to hurt. ‘Hikaru’ then begins to lose control, body disfiguring. ‘Hikaru’ begins to go after Yoshiki again and Yoshiki runs, hiding behind the wall of the staircase, he’s horrified, but stays still now, sinking to the floor when ‘Hikaru’ finds him. ‘Hikaru’ “attacks” him, but nothing happens. Yoshiki notes that it doesn’t feel gross at all and it’s probably because they’ve been so mixed with each other. Upon his name being called, ‘Hikaru’ returns to normal.

Temple[]

Vent to Kurebayashi[]

‘Hikaru’ tells Kurebayashi that Yoshiki wants him to be himself, but ‘Hikaru’ just can’t seem to do that. He tells Kurebayashi that he wants to go back to the mountain to protect Yoshiki. He begins to cry and says that he doesn’t want to be alone without Yoshiki.

Post Dad Talk[]

Yoshiki says that he doesn’t want to let ‘Hikaru’ go back to the mountain.

Beach[]

Once the two arrive at the beach, they seem to be enjoying themselves, and Yoshiki records ‘Hikaru’ for a bit as he runs on the beach. Yoshiki notices a solemn expression on ‘Hikaru’s’ face as he seems to be looking over the ocean, he becomes worried very quickly. ‘Hikaru’ reveals to Yoshiki what Hikaru’s last words were, but Yoshiki doesn’t seem too worried about that, more worried about what ‘Hikaru’ is getting at. ‘Hikaru’ finally tells Yoshiki that he wants to go back to the mountain to protect Yoshiki, but he is strongly opposed. ‘Hikaru’ begins to explain that he feels it’s not right for him to stay there at all and he is posing a threat to Yoshiki because he is so unstable. ‘Hikaru’ then proceeds to list all the differences between him and Hikaru, but what he doesn’t know is that those are things that Yoshiki admires. ‘Hikaru’ insists on the fact he wants to leave, but Yoshiki begins to break down, crying, he begs ‘Hikaru’ not to go because he knows it’s not what he wants. Yoshiki wants ‘Hikaru’ to stay with him, but doesn’t express it.

Volume 6[]

He tells ‘Hikaru’ that all this time, he's been selfish, saying that it was for both him and the village, but in reality, it was for ‘Hikaru’. 'Hikaru' then proceeds to tell him that he too acts on selfishness. He tells Yoshiki that he loves his selfishness and because of it he feels that Yoshiki has saved him many times. This directly impacts Yoshiki, affirming that his feelings are valid. ‘Hikaru’ then asks Yoshiki what is it that he wants. Yoshiki tells him that he wants to run away with him and go somewhere far away where they can both experience new things together and be free. ‘Hikaru’ agrees with him. After this exchange, ‘Hikaru’ realizes that Yoshiki really did want ‘Hikaru’ for himself and not for the real Hikaru, and begins to cry. Yoshiki asks if he wants to go anywhere else during summer break, ‘Hikaru’ says he saw a cool bread place in Tokyo on a vlog. Yoshiki agrees and says that once they solve everything, they will go on a trip to Tokyo to visit the bakery.

Bonus Chapters[]

Chapter 0[]

Chapter 0 consists of a series of one-shots which have not been confirmed as canon by the author. They lean towards the romantic side of Yoshiki's and ‘Hikaru’s relationship, contrary to the horror which it focuses on throughout the series.

One of the one-shots consists of ‘Hikaru’s characteristics as a supernatural creature, containing information about it. On the bottom of the page, it shows Yoshiki's face and a text stating that he "has had one-sided feelings for a long time - sanity's dropped to zero".

On the next page, there is a one-shot scene drawn. It shows Yoshiki asking ‘Hikaru’ if he liked him, and ‘Hikaru’ replies: "I like you". Yoshiki questions why, and ‘Hikaru’ replies by saying "Let me think. You're really sweet to me, and... I'm guessin' this body had a pretty big influence... before I got this way, it probably already liked you".

Another one of the one-shots starts with ‘Hikaru’ saying that Yoshiki smells bad. Yoshiki wonders why he smells like that, and ‘Hikaru’ replies by stating that he had probably been targeted, and he proceeds to place his lips on Yoshiki's lips. Yoshiki's eyes widen and he blushes. After a few seconds, ‘Hikaru’ pulls away and says that he took a little bit of his "insides" and put them inside Yoshiki. Yoshiki says "Wh-what the hell are ya doin?! Freaky... My vision went crazy for a sec..." to which ‘Hikaru’ explains that he did it so no one would try to target him, since no one would want to eat things that have a piece of ‘Hikaru’ inside them.

Lastly, another one-shot starts with ‘Hikaru’ with his arm around Yoshiki's shoulder. He blushes and says "Yoshiki, let's go home~", to which Yoshiki replies: "Why are you being so clingy? Stop it..." while blushing and looking away. ‘Hikaru’ then says "What do ya mean 'why?' 'Cause I like youuu?", and Yoshiki asks why Hikaru never said that when he was alive. ‘Hikaru’ explains that the other Hikaru's family had something unique about them, which is that they have a jinx - whenever they fall in love with someone, ‘Hikaru’ (The Great Lord Brainsnatcher) will take that person away. He mentions that two guys together have been a thing before, but Hikaru was still a little scared of that. Then, he blushes and states that Yoshiki has nothing to worry about now and that he'd always be with him.

Bonuses[]

  • In the first volume's bonus, Yoshiki and ‘Hikaru’ are seen in Yoshiki's room hanging out. ‘Hikaru’ asks Yoshiki if he's going to cut his bangs, to which Yoshiki replys with they're like curtains for his face and that he won't cut them. Yoshiki begins to talk about how people in the village won't shut up about his bangs. ‘Hikaru’'than asks what he doesn't like about his face, Yoshiki doesn't reply. ‘Hikaru’ mentions Yoshiki's moles and he agrees. ‘Hikaru’ asks why he would be insecure of his face since he thinks Yoshiki has a nice face. ‘Hikaru’ than offers to cut Yoshiki's bangs for him. Yoshiki immediately refuses. He then recalls a memory from the past with the original Hikaru where Yoshiki let him actually cut his bangs only to reveal Hikaru severely messed up his bangs. The next day, ‘Hikaru’ gives Yoshiki hair clips to help with his bangs.
  • In the second volume's bonus, ‘Hikaru’ watches a video about animals' breeding seasons and what they do to find a mate. ‘Hikaru’ is amazed by this information and states that he thinks that living beings and their ability to create other living beings is "downright incredible." Yoshiki is confused but decides to just agree with him anyway. ‘Hikaru’ then remembers that a girl from another class had asked him out. Yoshiki asked what his reply was but ‘Hikaru’ wasn't able to give her an answer. When Yoshiki is made aware of that, he makes ‘Hikaru’give her a proper apology. After ‘Hikaru’ apologies and politely turns her down, ‘Hikaru’ starts to wonder what type is his like for Yoshiki, questioning if his like is same type of the girl that liked him.

Fanon[]

This section is in need of major improvement. Please help improve this article by editing it.

YoshiKaru is the most popular ship within its fandom, and the most written relationship on A03 for both characters and the fandom, having 167+ works. The ship's fanmade material is often portrayed as angst due to its dynamic and the circumstances of the two.

YoshiKaru has little to no rival ships since the entire manga is about them and their situation, making a bit harder to make any other ships involving the two.
