Yunon is the het ship between Yuffie Kisaragi and Sonon Kusakabe in the Final Fantasy fandom.

Sonon is a new addition to the Final Fantasy 7 franchise, first premiering in the DLC to Final Fantasy 7 Remake. He is Wutaian, just like Yuffie, and trained under her father as a teenager. Despite this, Yuffie and Sonon don't meet for the first time until they both arrive in Midgar on a mission to capture the Ultimate Materia. Yuffie is surprised to see that Sonon respects her and doesn't view her as a little kid, as almost everyone else does. He declares her the leader of the mission as she has more experience in materia hunting than he does, and often calls her "Boss".

They work together in Sector 7, alongside Avalanche HQ. Through this they grow closer to each other, and learn more about the respective abilities. They prove to be a good team, taking down the Gigantipede and fist bumping in excitement upon their victory. They earn themselves Shinra ID, and board a train up to the plate. The train is crowded, and Yuffie is pressed against one of the walls with Sonon leaning over her. She starts to become motion sick, but Sonon tries to comfort her. He compares Yuffie to his little sister, who also trained under Yuffie's father in Wutai. He tells Yuffie about his sister's death, which occurred at the hands of Shinra; specifically, the creations of the Advanced Weaponry Department.

Fanon

Yunon is a rarepair in the fandom, likely due to the fact that Sonon is a character that only appears in the DLC of a remake of a game that was over 20 years old. Most fans of Final Fantasy 7 already had their minds made up about ships for Yuffie, and thus don't think about Sonon very often. There is also the added complication of the age difference between the two characters, with Sonon being 24 and Yuffie being only 16. Sonon also seems to often compare Yuffie to his younger sister, which has inspired some fans to view the two as having a sibling-like bond rather than a romantic one.

Fans of the ship enjoy the dynamic between the two characters, with Yuffie being extroverted and goofy, while Sonon appears to be more introverted and stoic. They appreciate the fact that Sonon shows respect for Yuffie and treats her as an equal rather than a child.

On AO3, there are over 15 works for this ship, and 7 works for the platonic variation. It is Sonon's most popular ship.
