Zackffie is the friendship between Yuffie Kisaragi and Zack Fair in the Final Fantasy fandom.

Canon

Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

Zack and Yuffie first meet in Wutai. Yuffie comes out of Fort Tamblin and declares herself to be "Wutai's Greatest Warrior". She tells Zack that he must leave Wutai, and that if he wants to proceed further he has to fight her. Zack is confused, and a little afraid about how he should react to a little kid. Yuffie runs up to Zack and pretends to punch him a few times. Finally, Zack decides to play along with Yuffie's game and collapses to the ground, telling her that she "got him". Yuffie, pleased with herself, declares this a victory for Wutai and runs off.

Some time later, Yuffie gets Zack's contact information. She sends him an email under the name "Treasure Princess", asking him to help her go on treasure hunts. Zack goes on Yuffie's first mission, and is surprised to learn that she is the Treasure Princess, referring to her as the "weird kid" he met in Wutai. He becomes concerned, learning that she is on her own in a place infested with monsters. This upsets Yuffie, who declares her quest to be failed before running off, crying. Zack grows even more concerned, wondering if he should have played along with her game more.

Due to his guilt over making her cry, Zack continues to accept Yuffie's missions. Most of the time, he defeats the monsters and approaches the final chest, just for Yuffie to arrive and steal the treasure out from under his nose.

After receiving six mails from "Treasure Princess", Yuffie will adopt the new moniker of "Anonymous" and pretend to be a new informant. Zack, of course, can see right through her.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

On her date with Cloud, Yuffie reveals that she had a childhood crush on Zack. She focused on training so that she could one day fight him for real, because she was upset with him for only humouring her as a little girl. However, Yuffie eventually realized that Zack wasn't being condescending but was a genuinely nice guy.

Fanon

Zackffie is a rarepair in the fandom, likely due to the fact that both characters are considered "optional" in the original game. Zack's backstory, and the entire character of Yuffie, are only available to the player if they follow a certain set of instructions to unlock them. As such, some original fans barely knew about these character's existences. While they have some good interactions in Crisis Core, the age difference between them leads away from romantic shipping and potentially reduces interest in the ship as well.

Those who enjoy the dynamic between Zack and Yuffie typically see them as a big brother and annoying kid sister. There are some fans who ship the pair romantically, but it is not very common.
