Zhanyi is the slash ship between Zhan Zheng Xi and Jian Yi from the 19 Days fandom.

Canon[]

Past[]

Jian Yi and Zhengxi meet when they’re very young; in kindergarten. During this time, Jian Yi is being bullied and is a very neglected kid who cries a lot. One day, his class does a play of sorts and he sees everyone else hurry to take pictures with their friends and family, but he has no friends, and his mother wasn’t there, so he goes and sits alone, until Zhengxi walks up to him and asks if he wants them to take a picture together. Their friendship starts here, with Zhan reaching out to him.

One day, Zhengxi sees Jian getting dropped off at school and asks why the lady dropping him off didn’t look like him at all, if they’re related. After Jian explains she wasn’t his mother, just a nanny, and he doesn’t have a father, Zhengxi asks if he’s lonely. Jian admits he feels a bit lonely, and Zhengxi squeezes his hand to tell him he’s there, and that he has superpowers. He says that if Jian holds his hand tight, he’ll give him strength.

Zhengxi, despite also being a kid, does his best to step up for Jian, including protecting him from a big kid that picks on him. In one scene, the two stand in the rain and talk about how in their next class they might not be together. Zhan says that if they get split up, Jian will have to become stronger, but if he still can’t beat him, Zhengxi will help him, and until he’s strong enough to protect himself, he will protect him.

Far later in the series, we get another scene of Zhengxi helping Jian out after he’d fallen and bruised his hand. Jian cries silently on the floor until Zhan notices the bruise on him, and says it must hurt. Jian says big boys should be strong, so it shouldn’t hurt, and Zhan reminds him that he doesn’t have to hide his pain in front of him. Jian nods, and Zhengxi blows air onto his hand to help him.

Present[]

19 Days begins with random one-shots between two boys; one being suggestive and one being brash. A true story does however develop through these one-shots as they smoothly introduce other characters and create a real plot. We first see this when Jian Yi goes over to Zhan Zheng Xi's house to play games. It's here that we establish in the real story that they were childhood friends, and actually good friends at that. Due to the nature of the comical writing, the heartfelt feeling doesn't last long as shenanigans are back in the mix, but it's impossible to ignore the already growing sense of wholesomeness between the two. To think Zhan looked after Jian when all we'd seen so far was Zhan being annoyed by Jian, it makes their relationship and progress seem really genuine.

A lot of Zhanyi's moments are built upon awkward encounters, and it here that we also begin to see that, as Zhan's sister walks in and almost sees Jian Yi pulling Zhan's pants down. Thankfully, she had a blindfold on. Both Zhan and Jian blush in embarrassment after closing the door.

The next time we see more of their dynamic is when they're walking over a bridge(?) and Zhan accidentally throws his phone into the water below. When Jian jumps off the bridge to go and catch it, Zhan catches him and they fall down together. Like when they were kids, we see more of Zhan's protective nature over Jian, as he saves him from then drowning and asks if he's alright.

When they get back to Zhan's place soaking wet, they momentarily speak with Zhan's mother before getting dried off. Jian Yi is staying the night after this event and we see Zhan get confused as Jian curls up beside him on his bed, instead of on the floor. He tells Jian to roll down there, and when Jian does, he rolls onto Zhan so they're chest to chest. He gets pushed off.

In a late night talk when they're meant to be sleeping, Jian asks if Zhan thinks he's handsome, and Zhan says his looks are tolerable... But, when he isn't being a 'spazz' he's pretty handsome. When Jian gets hyped up and jumps at him, Zhan quickly goes back to being defensive.

After Zhan fully goes to sleep, we see Jian sit up and lock their fingers together; Zhan's hanging off the side of his bed.

In another short, we see a girl that has been established to have a crush on Zhan. She has a heart envelope in her hands and says that 'this time she will finally succeed', but as she goes to pop out of the shadows she sees that Jian has looped his arm around Zhan and began pestering him, then slaps Zhan's butt, causing a crowd of scandalised girls to form. The next day, she tries again as Zhan is crouched under a pillar but... Jian waltzes over and snaps Zhan's pants back onto his skin.

Then, Jian Yi sees the girl hiding ineffectively and calls her out on her lack of skill. He proceeds to say that she's coming off as a stalker, but he envies her. She has the courage to confess to the person she likes. He then reveals that he knows who the love letter is for, and that he can give it to Zhan for her with a threatening look in his eyes. He tells her that the one condition is that she can't go close to Zhan in the near future.

When she asks why that's the condition, Jian stumbles over his reasoning and settles for 'you wouldn't understand', and then snatches the letter and goes to deliver it.

Yet when he's right behind Zhan, he shows hesitation, rapidly tapping his finger over the letter. He thinks back to a time Zhan and himself had a talk about someone who stopped hanging out with them after they got a girlfriend, and Zhan said that other people can't decide for others how good a relationship is. He hands the card over, and immediately leaves the room with the excuse of needing to go to the bathroom.

Ah... This feeling...

Jian walks through the halls expressionless, bumping into people until he reaches a window to lean on. He Tian finds him there and says he looks like he's in a bad mood, but Jian insists he's fine.

This day (^) is also actually Jian Yi's birthday, and Zhan rejects going to see a movie with him. At first Jian is disappointed, thinking Zhan forgot, but then Zhan reveals it's because he has something else planned. He leads them up a tall hill, and once they reach the top, under a sky full of stars, Zhan pulls out a sparkler and lights it, to which Jian cries and hugs him.

When they both head home, Jian goes to tell Zhan something but decides against it. He'll say it next time.

Back at school, Zhan realises something is up with Jian. He wonders why Jian is putting on a face like nothing is wrong. He confesses that sometimes Jian has on an expression he's never seen before, and he solemnly wonders if he doesn;t know Jian at all. He finds the boy later after punching a tree, and he yells, asking Jian 'what are you doing to yourself' after seeing his bloody knuckles. Jian replies that he just wanted to make himself stronger.

It turns out that Jian actually has a fight after school with a redhead he bumped into earlier.

Later on in the school day (seriously how long are their school days), Jian Yi is taken to the infirmary by Zhan after he ran into a pole really hard and had a bloody nose. Zhan goes to visit him in the office a while later and they... compare leg hair, only to be caught by He Tian.

As the two are doing cleaning duty, they meet with He Tian doing basketball. This is where they encounter the redhead.

No second after the redhead has his hand around Jian's throat, Zhan is glaring at him and grabbing the boys arm tightly. He tells him that he'll have to beat him first. Zhan pins Mo (the redhead) down and raises a fist, saying: "If you dare lay a hand on him... I will never let you off." After that dialogue, we get another flashback to his and Jian's childhood where he pinkie promised he'd protect him.

After a while of squabbling, Mo grabs a rock off the ground and smashes it into the side of Zhan's head, causing him to pass out as Jian looks in horror.

Zhan wakes up on a hospital bed with his mother and sister there, a bandage wound around his head. He asks where Jian is, and his mother tells him that she told him to go home because he seemed tired. After that, Zhan calls Jian and Jian tells him he's been suspended, as well as the redhead. After some small talk, he eventually tells Jian he wants to see him now.

Jian runs after crying, and goes straight to Zhan's room and flops himself in a seat, and his head on the mattress beside his friends legs. Zhan asks Jian if he feels guilty, and Jian says of course not before jumping onto him.

Zhan slaps him and Jian pouts beside him, sat on the bed now. He mentions how he won in their no blinking game, and how Zhan owes him rhe right to an 'obey what he say'. Zhan leans away sweating, and Jian reassures him it's not what he's thinking; he embraces him. 'I'm grateful for knowing you'.

At school after Zhan was suspended is boring for Jian Yi, so he gets help from He Tian to escape. They jump over the school gate and part ways after a small talk, and we see Zhan being awoken by knocking on his door.

He opens the door and a shirtless Jian beams at him, asking if he missed him. Then sneezes right in his face, already beginning to catch something after running in the rain. Zhan gives him a blanket and a warm towel, saying if he gets sick he doesn't want to take care of him. He then asks Jian, "Do you want to try it?". Jian blushes and pounces on Zhan, but as they fall off the edge of the sofa Zhan hastily explains he was talking about trying the new game he got.

After a while of playing, Jian says they should stop and chat for a while. When Zhan blows him off and ignores him, Jian starts putting his socked foot down the others chest under his shirt until he's pinned back to the couch he was sat on. Forgetting his anger for a moment, Zhan comments on how Jian's head is really hot and tells him to be good and lay down while he gets medicine.

Jian Yi has a nightmare in his fever sleep and tries to walk after waking up, feeling sick. As his legs give in, Zhan is there to catch him. Jian then throws up on Zhan and gets pushed off. We then cut to Zhan dragging a whining Jian into his bedroom and chucking him on his bed, stripping him of his shirt.

He wakes up a little later feeling a lot better, and he says it's getting late so he better head back. Zhan gives him a jacket since it's gotten colder, and just as Jian is about to leave, Zhan's sister opens the door and he falls back, pinning Zhan to the wall, their faces close, and both of them sweating. As Zhan's sister watches on, Jian wonders what he should do, face a furious red, and he eventually hollers before kissing Zhan.

Zhan's eyes stay open in shock, and after a moment, he shoves Jian off of him and punches him in the face, asking if he's crazy. Jian's face is hidden as he tries to say it's just a joke, then he runs out into the rain. Zhan has a face of conflict before he runs out after him.

He calls out to Jian and runs as fast as he can until he manages to jump and crush them both into the ground. After Zhan says he just wants to talk, Jian says they can talk next time. Zhan then asks, still on the ground, if Jian likes men. If that's it. Jian asks what he's talking about, crying into his hands. He then asks in return if that's what Zhan thinks all of this is. Zhan thinks he likes men. Jian admits he's become confused too, and he doesn't know why he's crying.

He then asks Zhan if he can pretend they didn't see each other, and if he can pretend he didn't say these things. He asks if when they see each other the next day, can they go back to how things used to be; chatting and hanging out together. Can they pretend it's only a joke?

Zhan seems shocked at all of this, and reaches out with his hand as Jian begins to cry harder, pulling him into a hug under the rain.

Jian Yi and Zhan meet up again once Zhan is back in school, and they go out to eat some breakfast. After a dirty joke, as usual, from Jian, Zhan turns serious and goes to ask him something- but his sister jumps into frame and hugs him. After Jian kissed Zhan, she becomes very hostile towards her brothers friend. In this brief interaction, she tells Jian with her eyes to stay away from her brother. Jian grins down at her in a sinister manner, replying with his own eyes 'who cares what you want', pinching her cheeks and then going back to being close with Zhan.

In school, after a brief interaction with Mo again, Zhan looks at Jian from inside the classroom as Jian talks with some people outside class. Zhan then overhears two girls talking about a boy with white skin and thin lips, his eyebrows white. One of them turns quieter and says tht they shouldn't think he's only smiley and happy, however, because inside he's super twisted and a bit of a perv. Zhan slams his fist into their table with an angry expression and says that 'he' is absolutely not that type of person.

The girls blush and stutter that they never thought he would like him that much too, pulling up a book with a cover of two men doing... nsfw things. One of the girls says he looks a lot like Jian Yi and when Jian walks back into class he finds Zhan trembling and unwell at his desk.

Jian and Zhan meet up later that day, and Jian has two forms; one for himself, and one for Zhan. When Zhan shows up, he asks Jian to tell him what he's really thinking. He admits that ever since last night his head has been a mess- ever since they were kids, they told each other everything. But slowly, it feels like he's not understanding him anymore. He tells Jian to tell him what's going on because he must have suppressed a lot already. Jian grabs his biceps and says into Zhan's neck, if it's all because of him, what should he do? They both crouch down blushing and Zhan tells him to not say anything anymore.

Even later that day, Xiao Hui (the girl crushing on Zhan) runs up to him and Jian, asking Zhan if he's free after school. Zhan says he has clean up duties after school, and after she says she can wait, he continues to say that that's not necessary, and if there's nothing else she wanted to say then he was going to go. In a last effort, she tries to say it's her birthday, and she's having a party, but Zhan fully declines by saying he doesn't like noisy places.

Jian tells Zhan he should be gentler when talking to girls, because if you refuse people like that then it'll hurt their feelings. He then says it's obvious Xiao really likes him. Zhan turns around and asks why Jian is saying these things; if he told her yes, than what about him?

In the next chapter, Jian Yi is chipper in art class, humming and thinking about what Zhan said. He then leavs the classroom momentarily and overhears two girls talking about how someone put Xiao's love letter on the bulletin board. Jian Yi stops in the hall and grabs either side of his head.

As Xiao tries to grab at her letter amongst the crowd, Jian slams his fist into the board and tells everyone to get lost before going somewhere secluded with Xiao who asks if confessing your love to someone is really that wrong. She then cries and says that Jian doesn't want her to get close to him because he doesn't want Zhan to like her. She stands to her feet and says that he's 'acting like a disgusting gay'. Jian shouts at her to shut up and punches the wall beside her, and then goes to walk off once Zhan catches him and calls Jian's name.

Jian tells Zhan to go comfort her, but as he walks past, Zhan grabs his hand and gives him a small hug, then tells him to wait outside.

After school they go to a small restaurant place where the owner gives them a salty dish. Jian groans and asks for a cup of water, and then he goes and chugs a whole glass of 'water', wondering why it tasted really spicy. Zhan notices on their walk back home that Jian is walking strangely, and yanks him before he walks right into a hedge. Zhan wonders if he accidentally drank alcohol and offers to take him home. Jian denies the offer and shakes his index fingers, saying 'see you later' before passing out into Zhan's chest.

Once Zhan starts walking with Jian on his back, he realises he doesn't actually know where Jian lives- Jian had only ever gone to his house. He manages to get Jian home after calling the class rep for his address. He takes Jian's keys and opens the door, flopping him onto his own bed. But Jian's bag catches on his shoulder and he falls with him, accidentally straddling him on the bed.

Zhan tries to get up with the bag tangled and Jian says some embarrassing things before leaning up and starting to hug Zhan, asking if he's abnormal while bursting into tears. Zhan stops fighting and runs his thumbs under Jian's eyes and hugs him on the bed.

In his drunken state, Jian starts to make Zhan uncomfortable and tries to kiss his neck, but Zhan sweats and pants and pushes him away by the shoulder. He falls to the floor outside of Jian's front door after he was told he should go and holds his head. Before he can fully process anything, a gang of men in black walk into the hallway via the elevator. They ask Zhan if his name is Jian Yi.

Zhan says he doesn't need to answer to them, and ends up getting his mouth muffled and being dragged away by two of the men. As he tries to squirm out of the hold, Jian senses something is wrong and bolts out of his room, managing to catch Zhan telling him not to come before he's muted again. The men end up taking Jian roughly, while Qiu (one of the men) holds Zhan back as he yells for them to let go of Jian. After he gets too feisty, Qiu slams him into the floor and holds him still.

They get saved by Jian's mother who walks in and finds the scene, and Jian walks Zhan home. On their way, Zhan stubs his toe on a curb and squats down. Jian laughs and squats in front of him, asking if Zhan was embarrassed because a big guy just held him down- if he felt weak and small. Zhan says he did, and that he wants to grow up faster so he can become stronger and protect Jian.

We again see even more of Zhan's possessiveness and care for Jian a couple chapters later after Jian runs a race and collapses at the end. He pats Jian's back and tells him he'll be better in a bit. And again around two chapters later when Jian pretends to go missing, and Zhan immediately becomes extremely worried.

In Chapter 186 is when Zhanyi start hanging out with Tianshan, the other main pairing of the series consisting of He Tian and Mo Guan Shan who throughout all of the above have made their own relationship progress. It's also around this time that their appearances become less and less, but their interactions are still very important to their story. In this chapter, they all take the train together and go to He Tian's place.

Upon entering, Jian tackles Zhan onto Tian's bed, and tackles him again onto the couch when they've eaten. When Zhan begins studying, Jian talks to He Tian about his feelings. He admits he's been feeling more and more confused about himself lately, and brings up their old conversation of kissing. Tian says some wise things about distance, and wanting a lack of it. When Jian wonders aloud, 'what if the person is male', Tian whispers if he's talking about Zhan Zheng Xi- to which Jian goes a mad red and covers his face while leaning away.

Later, during the night, Zhan catches Jian sleeping funnily on the couch among a bunch of pillows and tries to wake him up by pinching his face. His eyes then widen as he realises Jian's skin is super soft, and begins squeezing his whole face.

There's a small Valentine's short after this chapter where Jian wonders if it's weird if he asks Zhan out on the day, but when they meet up, Zhan nonchalantly offers him some chocolate while waiting outside the aquarium.

The chapter after the special entails the continuation of the chapter prior where it was Zhan's sisters birthday. Jian is leaving Zhan's house with his regular goodbyes and goes to solemnly sit on a swing in the park. At the park, he's approached by a man and knocked out, and kidnapped...

Zhan wakes up to his phone buzzing, and Jian's mother is calling him; asking where Jian is since she can't get a hold of him.

While Jian is missing, Zhan talks to Tian about how this is really weird of him, and that he really wants to see Jian. A few panels later, after Jian is saved by Qiu, Jian also says that he wants to see Zhan.

Once Jian is saved by the previous gang that tried to kidnap him, he messages Zhan to say he's back, at the entrance of north station, and Zhan immediately starts running. When he arrives, he's panting and hastily looking around, and after not finding Jian immediately he tries calling him and runs around calling his name until Jian steps right in front of him, asking if Zhan is scared he'll leave. He starts teasing Zhan saying he was worried and such as they ruffle each others hair- but Zhan stops and rests his fingers on Jian's scalp. He says that if Jian ever dares to not come back, he'll never forgive him. They hug at the station loosely.

When He Tian and Mo Guan Shan are playing basketball alone some time later in the night, they call Jian, asking him to come over and get a drink on the way. They also lure him by promising Zhan will be there. Once Jian arrives with the drinks and realises Zhan is not there, he throws the water onto the pair. To this, they grab Jian by his arms and legs and force his crotch to grate against a tree.

Zhan eventually does arrive and when he does, Jian is complaining still on the ground after his torture. They play some rounds of basketball before all four collapse on some grass, and while He Tian and Mo are fighting in the back, Zhan asks if Jian is home alone. When Jian says he is, Zhan says that he'll sleep with him tonight, making everyone pause... He shamefully says he didn't mean it that way.

Despite the joke, Zhan does actually go to Jian's house and sits in his sitting room while Jian showers. While observing the room, he catches a picture of baby Jian and his mother, he seems to think for a while until we cut back to when Jian is out of the shower. When they're talking, Zhan asks about where he went and Jian states the truth; he was kidnapped just like in a movie. Zhan brushes him off after Jian's towel 'falls' off, and then goes to have his own shower.

Once they're both clean, Jian jumps onto Zhan with a small mattress. After he's pushed off, they lay sholder to shoulder on Jian's bed and talk. When Jian looks over, Zhan is on his side staring at him intensely. He asks Jian if he likes him, and if it's 'that kind of like'. Jian gets up slowly before escaping to the bathroom and sitting with his back to the door, with his face red and his heart jumping wildly.

After a while, he comes back out to face Zhan and gently holds his jaw, saying he likes Zhan so much he's going to explode, and Zhan was the only one. After confessing, Zhan doesn't react as his head is playfully pushed away. Jian says it can't make Zhan happy to hear that from a guy, especially if they're his friend, but he finally said it out loud. After saying goodnight, he goes to sleep on his couch and silently cries.

Moments later, however, Zhan emerges from the room and kneels down beside the couch, brushing some of Jian's hair away from his eyes before kissing his forehead. In his head, he says he knows; and it’s worded to say he truly hadn’t known the full extent of Jian’s feelings before, but he does now.

In Chapter 212, a couple chapters after some Tian and Mo moments, we see the night after Zhanyi's last interaction.

Jian jolts awake and sits up, looking side to side before spotting Zhan sleeping next to him and blushing. He reminds himself that nothing happened in the night and looks closer at Zhan's sleeping form where he's got his thumb in his mouth. Jian finds this funny and goes to take a picture, standing over Zhan. When the phone camera clicks, Zhan snaps awake and sits up fast, headbutting Jian where the sun doesn't shine.

Jian falls back and sits with with knees crossed while Zhan holds his head. Zhan tells him Jian should hurry up and wash his face and brush his teeth. When Jian says he's not in a hurry and for Zhan to go first, Zhan insists Jian goes first. After the back and forth, Zhan eventually admits he needs to 'recover'.

The two go out in the day and get chicken rolls to eat in the park, and they're approached by a young girl who claims they took her seat. She asks who they are, and Jian side hugs Zhan, telling her he's his man. Zhan bonks him on the head and they run off as the girl calls to her mother, saying 'those two are on a date'.

Back in the school scene a couple chapters later, Jian is told by a girl in his class that he seems to have grown taller. Jian makes a run to Zhan and pounces on him, telling him to stand still as they compare heights. After Jian happily announces he's finally taller than Zhan, Zhan leans in close to Jian's face in an almost flirty manner, saying they're about the same.

The next lore important chapter for Zhanyi is in chapter 258 when the pair are out clothes shopping and they run into Xiao Hui. Jian offers for her to join and she accepts under the assumption it's no problem. They end up all going to a mini restaurant, and when Jian goes to order, Xiao talks to Zhan privately. She asks him if he has someone he likes already. At first, he ominously wonders if there must be only like or dislike in human emotions, but continues to say it's hard to explain. 'He' has always been by his side. Xiao asks if it's Jian Yi, and Zhan hums in agreement before saying Jian is very important to him, and isn't someone who can be replaced.

Ten chapters later, Zhan and Jian are helping clean the gym for He Tian. As they're getting ready to go, Zhan rubs some drawings off a wall and makes his own image with his finger in the water his cloth left. A drawing of him and Jian holding hands under an umbrella.

Many chapters later after more general lore is set up (read the series if you want to know), we get another large moment for the ship. As the pair walk on a path, Jian falls down a step and is caught by Zhan who asks if he's okay. When he's fully steady once more, Zhan tells him to be careful before we get a close shot of their hands inching together as they're side by side. Jian turns to Zhan seeming to be confused as their knuckles brush, and Zhan stars back just as he fully reaches forward and takes Jian's hands in his. 'Don't fall again.'

On another little trip with He Tian and Mo, they walk through a forest setting. As they're walking, Jian gets attacked by thorns, and to make Jian feel better, Zhan takes off his jacket and puts it on Jian before walking away like he did nothing strange.

After the trip, Jian goes back to Zhan's house with him to help clean. In doing so, Jian makes more of a general mess than helping, and decides to put on one of Ziqian's (Zhan's sister) skirts. He pokes Zhan's shoulder and shows ooff his 'really long and straight' legs, causing Zhan to fluster, his eyes turning into spirals, before they're interrupted by the owner of the skirt.

At break in school in Chapter 347, Jian says he feels like he has a thorn in his hand. Zhan takes his hand and looks closely to try and find it, but while his face is close to Jian's palm, Jian reaches out his fingers and holds under his jaw before pulling him in- only to bite his cheek, and Zhan turns red. Then, at the assumed second break of the day, Jian orders Luosifen for the delivery person to slide through the bars of the school gate so he can eat with Zhan. They sit by the gate and eat until they both slurp up the same noodle, like a LAdy and the Tramp scene, but before anything can happen, Mo is next to them getting laxatives delivered through the school gate.

Later, after a clear visit to a costume renting place, Jian and Zhan walk across a show happening at the mall. Jian cheers, saying that their songs are really good and urges them to go closer and check it out, but instead of having to move forward, Zhan kneels down and lets Jian climb and sit on his shoulders to see.

Days after that, and after the Cultural Festival, Jian and Zhan go to make wishes at the temple before going home. On their way, Zhan points out a bath house and they go inside. During their stay there, Zhan seems to be less uncomfortable around Jian and even gets undressed in front of him before going into the showers. In the shower room, they both share the water, and Zhan scrubs Jian's back with his ears and face red, along with Jian's. Seconds later, a man approaches them and asks if they need help with that, before taking them to get their skin exfoliated(?). In that process, they end up in pain as their skin is brutally rubbed with towels. They leave partially traumatised and holding each other.

Lots of Mo angst chapters ensue, and eventually we, and Jian and Zhan, are left in an awkward car ride with He Tian's brother; He Cheng. In this car ride, they're both quite intimidated as Cheng had just told off Tian in front of them. Tian calls Zhan while they're in the car, asking if he and Mo can sleep at his house since they're now pretty much homeless. Zhan, for Tian's safety, pretends someone is calling about a bill and finises the call saying he'll think about it. In the silence of the car ride that ensues, Zhan and Jian lock pinkies from where their thighs are touching.

A day later, Jian tries to get a hold of He Tian while sitting with Zhan on a couch. They decide to leave the house to try and find their friends after a kissing scene starts playing on the TV since they both get embarrassed.

They take a train and Jian gets jealous because a kid is eating ice cream. Zhan says he'll buy some at the next station, but then the train jolts, and the kid with the ice cream plants that ice cream right onto the butt of Jian's pants. They tell the mother of the child that it's okay and dash to a public restroom where Jian leans over a sink while Zhan kneels down and tries to rub the ice cream off harshly. He ends up making matters worse, instead leaving a bigger wet patch on the jeans, that just so happen to be the shape of a love heart.

He Tian and Mo eventually meet back up with their other duo, and this time at Tian's apartment. Jian compliments Mo's feet while Tian is tnding to them since they just got ran over by a wheelchair, and gets kicked out of the bathroom, going over to Zhan and telling him he got kicked in the back. He asks Zhan to rub it for him, and Zhan lightly strokes his waist before pinching him.

They're, again, back at school just a few chapters later, and in the morning Zhan and Jian come across a pole vaulting matt. Jian says 'contest?' and Zhan replies with 'bet'. After setting up the bar, Jian tells Zhan to go, and Zhan says his reward if he jumps over it will be that Jian must put his hair up in a ponytail. Naturally, since the bar wasn't too high, Zhan smashes it and actually almost smashes into the wall behind it, to which Jian hops in front of him to take the blow. Jian shakily asks if Zhan really wanted to see him in a ponytail that bad, and Zhan replies 'honestly, no'.

As a typical story goes, more plot happens not revolving purely around relationships, and Jian lands in the hospital after being stabbed and jumped. Yeah. For Ziqian's birthday, a few days prior Jian and Zhan went to get art supplies as a gift. One of the supplies included a craft knife, which Jian tried to use to defend himself against She Li, but it ultimately failed and he ended up getting a depe cut in his own hand, bleeding out until He Tian saves him and carries him to the hospital.

Zhan gets a call about the incident and hurries to the hospital with Mo, talking to the staff while Mo talks with Tian.

A while later, Zhan is allowed to visit while Jian is resting and bandaged up in the hospital bed. Zhan ends up falling asleep beside his bed, and has a dream back to when they were kids, where Jian hurt his hand. He tries to tell mini Zhan that men should be strong, but Zhan replies saying that if he's hurt he can tell him, Jian doesn't have to hold back in front of him, and then he blows on the wound to try and help the pain. He wakes back up and sees Jian has rolled over, still asleep, and gripped slightly onto the sleeve of his jacket. He sits up and jumps when he realises Jian's mother is there. She pats his shoulder and thanks him for always looking out for Jian.

In the morning, Zhan finds Jian spacing out outside on a bench and asks him what's up. Jian smiles at his arrival, and Zhan points out that he seems sluggish. Jian says he probably is, due to the fact he spent a lot of the night taking to his mother. They walk around a bit while we get a recount of more of Jian's story, and Zhan realises Jian is spacing out; asking what's wrong with him. Jian says that no matter what, Zhan can't leave him.

From chapters 420 and onward, we only really see Zhanyi in the background, but even back there, some things are noticeable and show a contrast to their relationship from the beginning; particularly for Zhan.

In general, in the backgrounds they're always seen close, pretty much always having some physical contact. Unlike at the start where Zhan refused to share his bed with Jian, he has since then become welcoming to cuddling, and just like when they were kids Jian still grabs Zhan's ear when they sleep.

Most times they do interact, even before now, they are interrupted by someone or something. As they're about to have a longer scene together as Jian tries to give Zhan a massage in the bath, Tian shows up at the window asking where Mo is at.

Chapter 441 is a Lunar New Year special, and it features a reference all the way back to the beginning. As a gift, Jian takes Zhan somewhere secluded, and away from Tian and Mo, to light a sparkler as they both crouch down. Zhan holds the sparkler and says, 'you remembered'.

Future[]

In the latest chapters, as of this section being written, we have been introduced to a more concrete version of the future; which takes place after Jian Yi has returned home after being kidnapped for approximately almost four years.

In the first canon future chapter, we see Zhengxi and Jian at some sort of gathering. It's a hot day, so they're both drinking cold drinks, but Jian runs out and starts suffering the heat. He pulls on his collar and tries to drink more, but he can't. Noticing this, Zhengxi stands to get him another drink, but Jian clutches him and tells him not to. Still standing, Zhengxi side eyes him before putting his drink up to Jian's mouth, telling him to drink his.

Jian grabs his hand holding the cup and brings it closer to sip on it while we get a shot of Zhengxi looking down at him.

In the next, He Tian has arranged for the four of them to go to a concert. Jian, at the venue, calls Zhengxi to let him know he's there already, and he can't forget to wear the shirt he got him yesterday so they could match. Zhengxi tells him he'll leave in a bit and see him there. After arriving, he calls Jian back to ask where he is, and walks into the bathroom to see him shirtless and whining into his now ripped shirt.

Zhengxi holds back a laugh and pats his head, telling him he'll sort something out. In the end, he rips his own shirt in a similar way to how Jian had, and they stand in the front row matching.

After this, we see a plot related chapter where Zhengxi is going to an interview. Jian stands around waiting, wondering why Zhengxi is taking so long. He snaps his head around some and then scratches his head when someone stands in front of him; a guy with slicked down hair in formal attire, carrying a briefcase.

He asks who the guy is, and Zhengxi says it's him, making Jian burst out laughing, telling him with the way he's dressed even a real estate agency would find him dull, while poking his face. Zhengxi wears a scolded face and explains that his mother said his hair is too rebellious, so it being slicked down made him appear more composed. Jian tsk's and pulls him closer by the blazer, then runs a hand through his hair, asking if he'd rather listen to his mom, or listen to him. Zhengxi admits he'd rather listen to Jian.

They head to a public restroom and Jian alters his hair so it's just right, removes his blazer, undoes the top button of his shirt, and takes his belt off. He steps back and becomes proud of his work, saying if he was Zhengxi's team lead he wouldn't be able to bear seeing him suffer from working overtime, holding Zhengxi by the chin as he looks away and tells him to be quiet.

Zhan walks up to the building and just as they're saying goodbye, he turns around and catches Jian, who clings to his side like a koala and says: "I'm waiting for you to earn money to take care of me!"

In the continuation chapter, after the interview, the pair go to a nearby cafe. Zhengxi admits he's satisfied with how the interview went so he's not worried, he just has to wait for the response. Jian Yi nods and says he's satisfied with him from head to toe, causing Zhan to slap his head down into the icing of a small cake he got.

Jian holds his face in disbelief that Zhengxi would think of him as indecent, and Zhengxi quickly grabs a tissue to clean his face. When Jian keeps playing that he's hurt, he grabs him by the chin and squeezes so he quiets down, putting the tissue on his cheek and wiping him down. Jian drops his act fast, and replaces his ugly face with a dopey smile. He holds onto Zhengxi's hands where they cradle his face and says he has to make sure to remember the way he is now, and Zhengxi only looks at him quietly.

After the cafe, they take a stroll and Jian gets a call from Mo, with him asking if they want to come over for food.

They change their direction and head over, with Jian leaning on Zhengxi's shoulder. Thinking about the fact Mo has his own place, Jian asks Zhan if he's ever thought of renting a place. Zhengxi says he hasn't for now, but he will when he gets the job. Jian flushes and awkwardly asks if, when he starts making money too, can they rent a place together. Zhan says that he thought Jian wanted him to take care of him, and when Jian brushes the comment off, asking how could he do that, Zhengxi says he's serious about it (taking care of Jian).

When they reach Mo's door, He Tian answers and gives them the food before slamming the door in their faces.

Presumably a couple days later, Zhengxi does an all-nighter playing games, so when Jian comes knocking he's asleep. Jian enters his room and straddles him, where Zhengxi tells him to let him sleep a bit more. He stays laying down while Jian wonders around his room, making various noises, until he hears him clipping his toenails in his bed. He sits up fast, saying he's had enough of him and he's gonna slap him to death.

Hearing this, Jian rolls forward into a crawl position, causing Zhengxi to slap him on the ass right as Ziqian walks in to give them drinks. They both look at her silently, and the chapter cuts off.

The 19 Days Christmas chapters take place in the future, and provide us with the knowledge that the future still takes place once Jian is back from being kidnapped. They were our first introduction to the canon future after the pilot, however, their canon status is confusing; they're written with the characters personality's being the same as they are in the year the chapter is written, meaning these future versions may be missing character development despite being older versions of them... Take these with a grain of salt, basically.

In the first Christmas special, we see Zhengxi has taken Jian Yi to a get together and he's gotten drunk. Just as they're leaving, a girl stumbles into Zhengxi who holds her up until she can stumble over to Jian. She asks him for a hug and while they hug, Zhengxi stands to the side with a silent look when she drunkenly asks for Jian to be her boyfriend. He laughs it off and they go, but Zhengxi has a sour face still.

Jian talks about how happy the get-together made him, then asks why Zhan looks so unhappy; is it because he didn't like his gift? Zhengxi, with the last happy face, asks how is he not happy, then gets dragged by his arm into a forest of trees bathed in blue lights. Jian Yi pulls him closer and says they should hug too, and tells him not to be angry anymore.

Zhengxi sweats and says he's really drunk, but Jian only gets closer until their noses almost touch, and he drunkenly admits he really wants to kiss him. Zhengxi blushes and says: "Like hell I'd kiss you, fuck off..."

In the next special, we see they've drifted away from the trees and now Jian is clinging to a large wooden fish outside a restaurant. Zhengxi pulls at his coat and exclaims that he told Jian not to drink so much. Jian tells him that the fish says he can't go until he gives Zhengxi a kiss. If he doesn't, he'll stay with the fish all night.

Zhan grabs his collar and tells him he's fed up, then brings his index and middle finger to his lips, then placing them on Jian's. He asks if they can go now, and Jian asks him to do it again in a sing-song tone.

Finally, in the next special, Zhengxi finally drags Jian through the door of their house, saying they're home. While Jian rants about how powerful and strong he is, Zhengxi lays him on the sofa and takes his shoes off for him. When he goes to get water for him, Jian latches onto his waist and refuses to let go. Zhengxi side-eyes him and holds the side of Jian's face to push it and make room for where he lays down, Jian curling around him.

When they get up, in the next chapter, Zhengxi is sat up and Jian is laying on his coat on the couch, saying he's sobered up and they should go play with Mo. Zhengxi tells him to go ahead and fall on his ass, see if he cares, and Jian keeps complaining while absentmindedly running his bare foot up Zhengxi's stomach, lifting his hoodie up.

He flushes all the way down his neck and grabs Jian's foot as it reveals his chest. Jian looks at him incredulously, and Zhengxi covers his foot with a fluffy sock and covers his face, turning even more red. Jian stutters that he'll 'take responsibility', to which Zhengxi tells him to fuck off.

In the latest Christmas chapter, we see later in the night. Zhengxi is cleaning his bed up in his pyjamas and hears a groan from the front room. He pokes his head in and sees Jian half on the floor, whining about having a leg cramp and chills because Zhengxi made him sleep on the floor. Zhan rolls his eyes and tells him to stop faking, and turns away.

When Jian reaches out and says he's not faking, Zhan pulls him by the wrist and drags him up into a bridal carry. He explains that he was just making the bed, so what's the fuss for, and carries Jian to the bedroom with his ears red. When Jian says he's 'not ready yet', Zhengxi asks what he's thinking about.

The content in this section is considered 'not canon' as these chapters are only concepts of the characters and not their final products.

The pilot one-shots for 19 Days depict Zhanyi as two very different people than who we know them as now, and it’s safe to say the characters in the pilot aren’t ‘canon’ to the current plot, and they’re just loose ideas that have been built upon as the series progressed. In the pilot, Jian Yi is very suggestive and crude and is seen constantly visiting Zhengxi’s home, much to his annoyance. In old official arts, he’s also depicted doing sexual acts sometimes for people that aren’t Zhengxi, though in current plot he is said to never have eyes for anyone but his best friend.

Zhengxi in the pilot is a lot harsher than how we know him now, and he acts a lot like how he was at the very start of the main story; always pushing Jian away aggressively. He has no shame in being naked in front of Jian, and even runs out of his bath to tell him not to touch his stuff. He is single in the pilot, but he seems to take girls’ numbers and message them, which the Zhengxi we know in current plot wouldn’t do for various reasons.

In the current plot, these two have grown much softer and have an ‘only you’ kind of relationship despite being younger versions of the pilot characters, and it’s quite obvious they do not grow up to turn out like their pilot versions. So while these versions of them do exist, they also… don’t, since their pasts have been changed drastically. If that makes sense.

Fanon[]

Zhanyi is a core aspect of the 19 Days series so they're very loved by majority of the readers, but as the series has gone on lots of people seem a lot more fascinated and intrigued by He Tian and Mo Guan Shan and their simpler trope, and due to their popularity the story primarily focuses on that pairing these days. There is not too many fics or fan artworks to be found of them, but there are a select few for any devoted fans! Their dynamic is more so loved by enjoyers of the 'Friends to Lovers' trope instead of 'Enemies to Lovers'.
