Alabasta Saga

Zoro welcomes Robin into the crew.

After the Straw Hats had left Alabasta , Robin showed herself after hiding herself on board of Going Merry in Chapter 218. She then told them that she wanted to join the crew, which was eventually accepted by Luffy because he said that she didn’t do anything wrong. Although most of the Straw Hats had accepted her as a crewmate, it was Zoro who remained wary of Robin due to her being a former enemy as well as being the vice president of Baroque Works. She used various tricks to gain the trust of her crewmates, she never tried to trick Zoro into accepting her —  she just gave him a smile.

Skypiea Saga

Jaya Arc

Cricket had told the Straw Hat Pirates to look for the South Bird in the woods in Chapter 230. The South Bird will be the one guiding them to where the knock-up stream was located, making the Straw Hats split into groups. Robin and Zoro were paired up as a team during the hunt for the South bird. But as they hunt for the South Bird, Robin tells Zoro to stop killing the bugs that got in their way. But Zoro dismissed what she said. He even said it was the bugs’ fault for getting in his way. Zoro also added that he was still wary of her and she was still hiding her true intentions.

Skypiea Arc

In Chapter 239, the Straw Hats seemed to be overjoyed upon arriving in the sky island. Before leaving Going Merry, Robin opens up first to Zoro. She talks about how she never thought sailing could be adventurous. After that, Robin and Zoro were the last one to jump out of Going Merry.

As seen in Chapter 274, Enel said that he would take the remaining five to Fairy Vearth after he defeated Gan Fall. But Robin then asked what if they refused, what happens after that. Enel said that he had already decided. Robin then said if he did that, Enel would destroy the things he wanted in Skypiea. However, Enel had traced Robin’s actions, and said he already knew where the bell was located. Enel said that he despised conniving women from trying to manipulate him with her information, thus striking a lightning bolt on Robin. In Chapter 275, Zoro's protective nature was shown despite not trusting Robin, hence catching her in his arms after she was struck by Enel's lightning.

Long Ring Island

As Aokiji was about to attack Robin with his Ice Saber, Zoro unsheathed his sword immediately, blocking his attempt to attack Robin in Chapter 320.

Water Seven

Although he still fully didn’t trust her, Zoro gave Robin the benefit of the doubt when she apparently had betrayed them.

Enies Lobby

Zoro got more mad than anyone else when they were about to head over and get her back right after she said that she wanted to live. In Chapter 417, when Zoro was fighting the CP9 member, Kaku, Asura had first shown up. It was an incarnation that looks like a "demon god with three heads and six arms." Successfully defeating Kaku with his new technique, Zoro was the one who got the key for Robin’s handcuffs.

Thriller Bark

Robin eavesdropped on what happened to Zoro. She decided to keep it to herself upon learning what happened to the swordsman. While Bink’s Sake was being played by Brook, she commented that the song was nostalgic for her while watching over Zoro.

Fishman Island

Zoro and Robin rarely got into disagreement but it was Robin’s concern towards the swordsman when they were about to head ten thousand deep of the ocean. It was when the time they disagreed was when Zoro was about to go out of the ship, but Robin refrained him and told him that it was too dangerous for him to jump and might be killed by the water pressure.

According to Zokumuki, a youtuber who uploads anime statistic and popularity trends, ZoRobin ranks third in 2020 as the most popular het ship in One Piece while being led by LuNami and LuHan and followed by Zoyori. The popularity of ZoRobin began on the Skypiea arc. ZoRobin fans tend to say that it is one of the best arcs for the pair. From Zoro being wary of Robin to fully recognizing her as a crewmate. One of the iconic moments that drew fans with the pair was the time when Zoro caught her in his arms after Enel brutally attacked her with his lightning — it was then that Zoro was still wary of Robin before that event. To recognize the pair, fans have come up with a date to celebrate ZoRobin day — November 26 with the 24th as the starting point of the week. The number 11 was derived from Zoro’s birth date on November 11th, while the number 26 is derived from Robin’s birth date on February 6th.

Meanwhile, when Zoro first used Asura during his fight with Kaku on Enies Lobby, its appearance was an illusion that looks like a "demon god with three heads and six arms." With that, fans noticed that his nine-sword style was similar to the way Robin sprouts hands with her devil fruit.

• Robin’s official color is violet, while Zoro’s official color is green.
• In Eiichiro Oda’s 1994 Monster manga, there are some parallels that can be linked to the pairing — Zoro’s resemblance with the samurai Ryuma and Robin sharing a similar tragedy with the heroine Flare who is the only survivor of her village that was ravaged by a dragon.
• In the 11th cover art for Alabasta, a Straw Hat Pirates vs Baroque Works color spread shows the rest of the Straw Hats facing the foe they are going to fight against. Zoro, sneering, is matched against Robin despite her being the only one to not fight in any of the battles.
