ZombieMask is the slash ship between Zombieman and Sweet Mask from the One Punch Man fandom.

Canon

Monster Association Arc

Chapter 95

Most of the S-Class heroes have gathered to the meeting about the hostage rescue mission to the Monster Association’s base. Sweet Mask joins them despite them trying to first keep him out. He is confused what their plan is and why they want to leave him out of the S-Class team.

Child Emperor tells him that they will split everyone into two teams; underground strike team and surface support team. He also tries to sell the idea to Sweet Mask by telling him he can be the surface team captain. Sweet Mask doesn’t buy it and tells him straight that he will be part of the strike team as well and if Child Emperor wants to take advantage of his leadership skills, he should put the S-Class under Sweet Mask’s command. Zombieman chimes in and tells Sweet Mask that if he wanted to make a joke then he should have stopped at his name. He also tells the idol that if he wants to take credit then he can take the undead hero’s credit from the mission once it’s done as long as Sweet Mask does what Child Emperor orders. He also points out that they are entering a territory with overwhelming numbers of monsters and don’t have time for dissension. However, Sweet Mask changes the subject briefly by asking Zombieman why he can’t be killed and tells him it is quite unsettling. This seems to caught Zombieman off guard for a second. The idol then accuses him of being a monster which the undead hero didn’t like. Sweet Mask continues by saying how Zombieman was given the S-Class seat solely based on his fighting abilities and his real identity is highly suspicious. He then questions if they can even consider him an ally.

Superalloy Darkshine suddenly stops the idol’s provocations and tells him that they all are heroes there and what he is doing isn’t nice. Sweet Mask soon does remember that the S-Class are supposed to be pro heroes, however, he isn’t sure if they are actually any hero material since their reputation is terrible. He questions if they are fulfilling their duties as heroes.

Soon the situation turns heated between the S-Class and Sweet Mask, especially with Flashy Flash and the idol, but King’s appearance stops it. Sweet Mask eventually accepts to step down because of King, though not without telling them he will still be part of the strike team. Zombieman remains silent.

Chapter 136 (Online)

Superalloy Darkshine has a self-worth crisis since he was defeated by Garou. Many S-Class heroes are present and are surprised to hear this, and Zombieman even wonders how he was defeated. When the previously unbeatable hero suddenly is being swallowed by self-pity and he wants to give up since he is very scared as well, Sweet Mask steps up and kicks him so hard he is flying a bit farther from them. The idol then starts a barrage of attacks on Darkshine until he stops and then tells him he should go home since they have no time for cowards or self-pity in this late of game. Zombieman watches the idol quietly, interested to see where he is going with this.

Pissed off, Sweet Mask suddenly asks Darkshine doesn’t his weak mind make him feel angry. Zombieman seems surprised by this. Atomic Samurai almost interrupts, but Zombieman stops this as he wants Sweet Mask to continue his talk with Darkshine. The idol eventually manages to get Darkshine to overcome his weak moment (with a little help from Puri-Puri Prisoner) and they are back in action.

Soon Tanktop Master also joins them, and when the others talk with him, Zombieman talks to Sweet Mask and tells him that he first thought the idol was all talk, but has since changed his mind a little about him. Sweet Mask is confused by this and thinks he is creepy. Zombieman just laughs at that.

The idol then says to him that he doesn’t expect anything from an idiot who had all his equipment pulverized by the enemy, and Zombieman answers by calling him “embarrassing Mask” referring to his embarrassing situation when he was having hard time with Fuhrer Ugly and was screaming for help through the transmitter. Sweet Mask suddenly takes a hold of Zombieman’s hair and shooks his fist threateningly, however, Zombieman simply smirks at him teasingly. Child Emperor then stops them.

Chapter 139 (Online)

Child Emperor berates himself for not including Silver Fang and Demon Cyborg to the team before they left to infiltrate the Monster Association since they are great battle assets. He asks Zombieman to take over the leader role for him, but Sweet Mask says that real leader has to be someone who is a human as people hardly would follow someone who is basically a monster. Zombieman looks at Sweet Mask wordlessly, but Child Emperor gets angry at Sweet Mask for even thinking that Zombieman is a monster. However, the undead man calms the genius boy down by telling him that it’s fine. Zombieman suggests that Child Emperor should first go to other people with good mediator skills before he asks him. He tells the young boy that the fact he is already realized he needs to work on character judgement is a good thing and how learning to understand people is important. He ends this by saying how they all are human after all and Sweet Mask, while listening him speak, is wordlessly looking down.

However, this moment is broken when Homeless Emperor launches his energy balls at them. Sweet Mask manages to dodge it, but Zombieman has to push Child Emperor to safety and takes the hit. Sweet Mask yells his name and Zombieman is brutally hurt since part of him is gone from the attack and he is bleeding all over the place.

Fanon

The dynamic between these two characters is quite engaging to the fans. One is a very popular idol who just can't stand monsters, and also constantly cares about his appearance and is quite squeamish, and the other is a noir detective who, due to his ability to immortality, looks like a monster and who, due to a series of his deaths and resurrections during the battle does not care at all how he looks at all. Thus, these two are complete opposites, but this can potentially attract them to each other. In addition, in many of their joint fanarts and headcanons, Zombieman is shown as a character with chaotic energy who loves to tease the hot-tempered Amai. Also, sometimes the fans of this ship call Child Emperor (Isamu) their bastard son, which is very cute.

It is also worth mentioning that these characters have very interesting origins. As it was said, Zombieman looks like a monster, although he is actually a human, while Amai looks like a man, but in fact his appearance is just a mask that hides an ugly monster. It was precisely on his real essence that the emphasis was placed after the words of Zombieman: "they're all still human after all ..."

Trivia

• During Monster Association Arc, Zombieman and Sweet Mask’s chapters are right one after the other (Volume 22, Chapters 104 and 105).
• In one of the One Punch Man drama CD's "Amai Mask's Bitter Sweet Handsome Night", Amai Mask invites the entirety of the S-Class as guest for his new radio show. However, only Metal Bat (his little sister told him to go), Genos (Saitama told him to go), and Zombieman showed up. Out of the three that showed up, Zombieman was the only one to show up on his own without being coerced by others.
